I was window shopping in Harrogate the other day with my wife, trying to convince her I'd like a rolex for my 40th ( a few years away yet wink ) , when she pointed out a watch she really liked.

Turns out I loved it too, it was this :

Being a bit of a novice when it comes to watches, I'd never heard of Bremont. Anyone able to fill me in about them ?

I have that watch but with a cream face and brown strap.

Bremont is a new-ish business, set up by two British brothers.

They are both pilots and the watches reflect their interest in aircraft.

The quality of my watch is superb. The base movement is a 7750 but the detailing on it is good.

Another nice touch is that the watch comes in a wonderfully done leather folder (like a document holder) rather than the more normal huge box. The benefit being that the folder is something you might actually use again.

As you might be able to tell, I would highly recommend them!

Something a bit different

They look nice but as mentioned in another post on this thread, they have a pretty inexpensive movement. You can do better at the price.

I'm in two minds. I like the look of a lot of their watches, they are very nicely built and heritage isn't everything, I bet that back in the late 1800s there were people in taverns going 'IWC? They've only been making watches for a couple of years, you can do better for the money," and they are a something different. But there are a lot of other watches I'd buy before I got round to a Bremont. Just my two pence worth.

I've looked at them several times and can't make my mind up if I liked them or not, then I clicked on the link above and clicked change strap and now decided I really like it.

Nice watches, if a tad over priced.

Could be a decent s/h buy.

Hi mate, good to see you over here in webland. Yes it was a very nice piece but like many others I am not to sure, are they more worthy for example then something with a genuinely interesting movement and heritage such as a Zenith Rainbow Flyback for example.

If it floats your boat and all that then go for it. I was surprised for example just how nice the case sides and lugs were. You can't see this in face on pictures but its fairly unique looking whilst being in otherways very conservative. It will be interesting to see what happens with Bremont over the next few years.

They are a great watch maker with strong Aviation and Motorsport heritage. Here is my one taken against the off roader that they sponsor!

Heritage is not really the word to use for a company thats only been around for about five years, although I'm not 100% sure but I know it's a very new company. They are also very good at giving their watches out to celeb's to wear, don't get me wrong I really like the look of some of their watches but they would be a second hand purchase for me at no more than £1k.

if we stick with heritage the world would be a pretty boring place. Where shall we set the hurdle? Let's not buy anything from a manufacturer who started business after 1890 or should we make that 1880?

And we better check that they have been in business continuously for that period - don't want some johnny come lately sneaking under the radar by buying an old name

We will do the same for cars - different year of course but same idea - never touch a zonda - no heritage

For one I think the guys behind bremont should be applauded for taking the step of launching a new brand rather than trawling the back catalogues for some defunct brand that they can use to peddle a heritage

As for movements - there are plenty of older brands that use eta, IWC included

I agree with what you say, you are quite right in that we will all be stuck in the past if we don't give the new boys a chance, I was just pointing out that they have other key selling points but heritage is not one of them.

P.S If I was to buy one it would be the one you have.

P.P.S I would have a Zonda too!!! If only laugh

They've been going for approx. 6 years, their dad was a pilot and they fly as well, and they named the brand after the owner of a field where their father crash landed his plane IIRC. Heritage, I don't think so, but some nice watches, yes.

These are great watches. I tried on the same example as the one mentioned by the OP but with a cream face at the Festival Of Speed earlier in the year and was very impressed. This brand has definatly been added to my wish list !

Feels like a lot of money for something with a 7750 in it. Modified or not.

Heritage and history are everything in the watch world. Lets get real here, mechanical watches are an antiquated technology stuck in the past. If heritage wasn't so important guys would be spending 500 quid on a Rolex submariner not £3K+.

Having said that inventing or re-inventing a brand is nothing new in recent years.

Agreed. I think its just the claim of "heritage" that people took issue with. If the watches are good then they should stand or fall on that alone.

Personally they are a long way down my list, given the price/movement/etc..
