Come the New Year, I have decided to treat myself to a new watch, hang the expense it's time to indulge myself !!
My current thoughts are pre worn Submariner Date or if I'm feeling like really treating myself going for a pre worn Daytona.
So what should I look for? Is it safe buying from a recognised t'internet dealer (any recomendations ?). If a watch has authenticity papers, boxes etc but not the original Rolex papers, at a good price, is it OK ? Is the Zenith movement in a Daytona a good or bad thing?
Also am I right in thinking that no Daytonas have a date on them ?
Cheers for any advice.

Daytona does not have a date.
I have a bi metal with about 6 or 7 months Rolex warranty still to run.
Impulse buy, bought new about 18 months ago, all papers, box etc. I work from home so there are plenty of clocks every where, I never wear it. It has always been in a watch winder so always running as they should, unmarked looks as it did the day I bought it from the shop. (An authorised Rolex dealer)
If you are interested make me a sensible offer, I will also let the winder go with the watch. No silly offers, not selling because of the credit crunch, simply do not wear it.
If you do decide to go for any Rolex, I am not sure but I think there is about a 7% price increase to come early in the new year, so where ever you get one from it may be cheaper sooner rather than later.

My personal choice would be one of these babies -

But I am biased, having just bought one earlier today.
Sub LV also a good choice.
IMHO.

Personally I love Breitling, but they are just rebodied, reworked standard mechanisms, with the kudos of the name.
Doesn't stop me loving them though....
(And I know I'll get slated for this, but although I am amazed at the JLC technologies, I culdn't have a watch that has 'Couture' on the face. Far too footballer in my eyes....)

Let the slating begin!
Um, just where does the pictured watch have 'couture' on the dial? And are you really suggesting that a JLC is in any way a footballer's watch? Tsk...Mr MoJo said:
Just had a look at the Breitling site too, quite like the Bentley 6.75.
Are Breitling any good or are you paying for the Breitling / Bentley name ?
Some Breitlings are very nice but the Bentley models are vast and a bit shouty and are also vastly overpriced, definitely a case of paying for the name rather than the watch itself, but if you like it then that's ultimately the most important thing. Are Breitling any good or are you paying for the Breitling / Bentley name ?
Bi metal Daytonas are less desireable than their stainless counterparts and so make a better used buy as they will have actually lost some money, unlike the others which will not. I deduce that you have spotted this http://www.watches.co.uk/watch.php?wid=7359S, which, if you like bi metal, is good value as it's shed a substantial amount of money over the past 9 years. Are Rolex papers that important? I say no. Nice to have, but not essential - when it goes in for a service you will get a printout from Rolex with all the watch's particulars, guaranteeing its authenticity should you wish to sell it on. I have used watches.co.uk and they are friendly, helpful and know their stuff, just don't expect a discount.
To be honest, after handling a couple of Daytonas, I don't think I'd have one (not trying to spoil your sale here). Beyond the must-have factor, as nice as they are to look at they feel rather light and flimsy and are too bling for me. At £4500 there are some incredible watches available but ultimately go with something you'll want to see on your wrist.
