Hi All,

Every 3 months or so I pop back in here and get very tempted to splash out on a nice watch. With the sales on at the moment there seems to be a few bargains in the high street, or at least thats how it looks to me.

So, are either of these good prices?

Tag Heuer Aquaracer Calibre S Regatta - Blue face, at £825

http://www.tagheuer.com/the-collection/aquaracer/m...

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean (Big Size), at £1500

http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=931&p...

What are peoples opinions on those 2 watches? Are these good prices for these watches or can you find a lot better (pointers appreciated)?

BTW, I like them both, the Omega probably more so, but this will be my first big watch purchase and I'm keen to hear any opinions, good or bad, about both - future worth, how they'll age, what they're like day to day, etc etc

Thanks,
Mark

Can't really comment on the tag as they're not my thing, but the planet ocean is a lovely watch.

I'd expect the Omega to hold it's value better, but second hand values are something I know nothing at all about, as I can never bring myself to sell any hehe

So aside of the usual 'go with whatever you prefer' guff, my post is completely useless hehe

Bought my omega PO big size in September, for a bit more than you quote there.

Worn it most days since. Keeps great time, looks good, taken knocks well, now wear it on a leather strap.

Really cannot say enough good words about it, don't like TAG watches bar the carrera lot, but thy are double the cost.

The Omega PO comes up a lot as being a popular watch. Until recently I thought Tag were the same, but I'm getting the impression there's less regard for them compared to other brands by those in the know. Is this accurate? I was absolutely amazed to see the discount being given for those aquaracers.

TAG are a bit of a marketing company really - the original Heuer watches are very highly regarded, but when TAG took them over the result was nothing more than a brand, pretty much everything was outsourced. However, they do seem to have found their way a bit more recently, perhaps starting with the re-issue of some of the Heuer classic designs. Some of the latest designs I like a lot and would certainly not discount them out of hand. In particular the Calibre 360 looks fantastic but astronimically expensive ...

Edited to fix shocking grammatical error ... paperbag

Hi Mark,

Can I be cheeky and ask where your getting the PO from for £1500, is it a national chain of jewelers or just the local dealer?

Thanks
James

Well I've done it!

I've ordered the Omega Planet Ocean, large face, with a black bezel and orange numbers, and steel bracelet. The jeweller has had to order it in to get the right combo and it will arrive in 10 working days.

I've also bought the Tag - the reason being that I got what I believe is a fantastic deal on the pair of them, and I like the look of it even if I know deep down its trading a little bit on its brand.

And in case it helps anyone else, after trawling round every jeweller in Canary Wharf, Lakeside, Bluewater and a few more, this is what I've found:

- One retailer has 25% off lots of watches, just whats in their window, including some (maybe all) Omegas and Tags but they won't budge another penny

- Lots of places will do 20% off on a Planet Ocean, especially in Bluewater where 3 different shops went to 20% off without too much effort. A couple will also add free servicing.

- There are lots of bargains on tags. I saw the Aquaracer at half price, and other shops would price match it too. Others had it at £825 or £995

I hope this helps someone, but please PM me if you'd like the specifics so I can also give you names of people who have helped me. I spent a lot of time going back and forward and think its only fair that I point you to the same sales people.

Cheers,
Mark

Yes please, I'd be interested to see how much, but probably won't be changing anything for a while yet.

Incidentally, due to my complete indecision about which colour to go with, and some of the fantastic deals around, I came very very close to buying BOTH colours with the idea that I could spend a month with them on my wrist, decide which was best and then sell the other on. The plan was that the drop in value would probably be very close to the cost of having the bezel properly changed in the first place. I wimped out of this at the last minute though!
