We all celebrate the watches here that we love and admire - let's see who can pull out the most hideous example that horology allows to exist.

My first entry - it sums up extreme garish ostentation for me, worn by those who have no other purpose in life than to scream LOOK AT ME!

Good thread but surely there should be 2 categories; one for genuinely horrendous abortions eg the Graham posted above and the other for blinged up shyte like the Rolex and Jacob "examples?

The Musk MR2129 is proclaimed to be the world's largest wrist watch. 90mm in diameter and weighing in at 1.58 lbs. Now that is what I call horrific! laugh

There's a third category surely; a high class make watch that was a piece of poo and never ever worked correctly. In this category I nominate my Tudor dress watch, a present from my aunt for my 21st. It broke after one month and was such a dog it never ever ran properly no matter how many times it went back. It was "returned to produce" after a few years.

Edit: however, in the bling category here's one on ebay.com at a cool £180,000

Anything with Swarovski crystals or any other precious stone on the outside of the case made within last 50 years. I'll admit rubies in the internal mechanism only. I'll allow some very early pocket watches with discrete and skilful decoration.

Any case made out of gold/platinum in last 25 years. Ostentatious tacky crap. I'll alow some old gold pocket watches.

Anything with other than plain metal or leather strap or discrete pocket watch chain. Ditto tacky crap above.

I've never heard of it.

It's a bit odd looking isn't it?

I'm not sure of that either - the Lange & Sohne Dato in Platinum is a stunning piece.

Jackpot Tourbillon: How much of the plot would you have lost before you decided to spend the thick end of half a million quid on a watch with a built in fruit machine? (even though it's gorgeous)

I have to disagree there are many beautiful watches made from these precious metals. I can see you point about gold, but platinum? The patek featured is a prime example of one.

The 'bright' gold isn't my cup of tea either but some of the rose & pink gold watches can be lovely.

In the flesh (or metal) and on the wrist, that watch is truly stunning. I tried it on in the Patek Philippe Salon in New York at Christmas. To use a much overused watch forum phrase, it's a true grail piece.

The exchange rate was (is) horrendous so I didn't go for it but if I can find one in London, I am seriously tempted.

This is the ultimate. End of thread. Probably the most iconic watch for every and prick who makes a buck.

Gaytona and J&co

I've never liked either

"flamboyant" is the polite word.
