HI All,

Am after a bit of advice.

My GF kindly bought me a TAG Monaco in November 2007.

Basically, it has been back to Tag twice already, once when the crown came off, and secondly when it stopped altogether.

I have recently noticed that it seems to run 5 mins fast every 3-4 days

To me this is unacceptable - this is a £2K watch, and i cannot believe in the space of 14 months it potentially needs 3 visits back to base to be fixed.

I am now pretty disillusioned with the Brand - especially as this was my dream watch.

Am i being too precious here, or could I justify getting my money back?

Considering that a £20 casio would be more reliable, no you are not being unreasonable with your expectations. Especially that Tag are meant to be an engineering company.

I have spoken to Goldsmiths, who sold the GF the watch, and they are contacting Tag to get their views.

I am sure they will offer a whole new movement / watch, but I cant help feeling thoroughly let down by the brand

There weren't too many premium watches that I wanted, but the Monaco was one - and now I have a very bad taste in my mouth.

I had a similar problem with a Breitling Navitimer and the AD forced the issue with Breitling and they replaced the watch, even after 16 months. I suggest you push the AD a bit harder on this one.

Money back is pretty unlikely from Tag.

If you get a relacement, the AD may of course agree to put the sales value of said replacement against something else he's got in stock - especially if it's a few £ more.

If it is still under some form of warrantee then said warrantee is with the jeweller not with TAG. Lots of stores try this on and refer you to the manufacturer but strictly speaking it will be the jeweller you will be asking for a refund.
However you then can get into the realms of "you've had it and used it for 14 months so we will deduct x amount"
Fit for purpose can be a bit of a wrangle but the CAB or a solicitor will tell you where you stand. I would think a polite but firm word with the manager stating what you want would be the first step.

Hi gfurmidge,im new to the watch forum, but i also feel let down by Tag just as yourself. My wife bought me my dream watch which is a Tag Grand Carrera Cal 17 for my birthday back in December 07.In June 08 it was sent back to Tag after filling up with condensation.I got it back just last week after several visits to the supplying jewellers to complain. On pickup, it was returned to me in a plastic bag, with extra dirt and scratches thrown in! After expressing my disgust, the jewellers offered to polish it free of charge.I have a long term every day Tag F1 for work( plasterer)and beleive me it, takes some abuse! which has never let me down and shows no sign of wear.Playing safe and staying loyal to the brand, hasnt done me any favours.
