Sorry, this one's a query from the more 'budget' end of the market!

I've had my trusty G-Shock for about 5 years, it's used when there's a possibility that one of my 'nice' watches might get damaged.

I went surfing with it on back in December and it got condensation inside (which annoyed me as it's supposedly 100m waterproof. Unless they mean from shore, not down!?). It's dried out now but when I get really warm, for example when I'm cycling with it on, the condensation re-appears.

1) Is there anything I can do to stop this? Kinda annoying when doing timed runs. When not in use it's stored in a wooden box, complete with sachet of desiccant silica which I hoped might absorb any water vapour?

2) I know I've had it for ages but the watch is meant to be a sealed, waterproof unit. It's solar powered so it's not like it's been opened. Are Casio open to communication about these things or am I just outta luck?

That's annoying. I like the idea of a solar G-shock.

It's been spot on up until now, and it's had some pretty hard use too. Bought in Dubai airport so not too expensive either.

With no other ideas I might just speak to Casio, see if there's something they can do. The idea was that it would be nigh on indestructible!

You'd think that was the point of them!

I would go with the suggestion that the seals might have perished over time and that can happen to any watch. I'm sure Casio UK can help as they do still suplly parts for most models.

Oh, and by the way, they (like nearly every other watch out there) are water resistant not water proof . Very real difference between the two.

I've got one. It's been well-abused and doesn't exhibit any signs like those reported by the OP. It's even been through the dishwasher. (well, I had to find out, didn't I?)

100M water proof merely means "Suitable for recreational surfing, swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water sports." So while it should be ok, its not really that water proof.

The storing it with silca is a good idea in general, but it wont have any effect on the insides of the watch.

yes

And add to that what I said above, Casio do not claim that G-Shocks are water proof but that they are water resistant .
Hardly any watches on the market are actually claimed water proof as it is so hard to do (those that are "proof" tend to be the uber deep fluid filled diving watches).
