Having only recently caught the watchbug recently I've made a couple of small purchases - a Werner's and a seiko orange monster- but do have my eye on numerous others needless to say. This has already got SWMBO already asking "you've bought ANOTHER watch?!"

To date I've blagged it by mentioning stuff like different movements/styles etc whilst delicately pointing out that she should keep quiet until I've as many watches as she has pairs of shoestongue out

How do others deal with his tricky question (It is just my money I'm blowing, not the mortgage etc!)?

Tell her that it's your money and she should mind her own business.

Can't argue with your logic Soovy, but was ideally looking for a slight more, ahem, aesthetics based argumentsmile

Very simple; ask her if she could make do with only one pair of shoes/handbag.

If that doesn't work, point out that the total amount she spends on both (certainly in the case of Mrs Forrest) is streets ahead of my watch investments, and that I've got a fighting chance of getting at least some of it back in the event of a rainy day.

ETA - a man needs a watch for every occasion, if all of that fails. If this still doesn't work, I refer you to Soovy's answer above.

Yep, different watch for a different occasion. You wouldn't wear a £3000 Breitling to go climbing (unless you wanted an insurance claim) and you wouldn't wear a 55mm divers watch to an interview for a senior management position.

Which Werners didja get then? I am a bit of a Werners fan because they look different to the usual watches you can get in the £100 price range.

I got the Roman sun and moon automatic with the black face, now sold out (I think the white faced one is still on the site). Sorry to be too technically challenged to post a picture. I too like the look of a number of the Werner's watches but for the price of a couple of Werner's you are possibly into Precista/RLT/C Ward territory whose watches seem to have a bit more gravitas about them.

Ah, I remember that one. It's odd that they mix Roman numerals with Arabic numerals. Couldn't get my head round it, but it does look nice.

I know what you mean but there's nothing that really stirs me in those ranges. I'll either have to get a Sinn (will I really buy 4 watches in the next year?) or really save up and get a Panerai (will I really buy 20 Werners watches in the next year?). And then they're not so disposable. If I smack a Werners against a wall (I've been known to slam watches by mistake), I won't feel so bad...

I quite liked the quirky mix of roman and arabic but appreciate some would find it and also like the idea of a few "complications". I know what you mean, the Werner's, whilst interesting, do have that reassuarance that they are relatively inexpensive.

Any watch I buy will probably either have to be cheap enough to be "disposable" or tough enough to put up with my day to day handling tank as I coudn't bear to think of putting dings in anything more "dressy".
