I'm am a collector of watches but have noticed some distinct quality issues recently. Omega, IWC, Tag, Tutima, Zenith, Rolex. I have some horror stories that will give you nightmares. Is this something to do with mass production or am I a perfectionist? Please let me know if you have noticed dials not lining up, markers on subdials skewed. Dust particles and other things on dials. Chronograph hands not setting to zero. Chronograph hands not pointing to relevant markers on sub dials when counting hours and minutes. Don't look too carefully you may be shocked!

If the watch isn't perfect, then I don't accept it?

I have not accepted any of them but I am getting annoyed with problems obtaining a quality watch. I think I will stop collecting new watches. Rejected 3 IWC Aquatimer 2000, 1 IWC Aquatimer chrono, 1 Omega Seamaster chrono, 2 Tag Aquagraphs, 2 Tutima Pilot chronographs and others recently. I can not be the only one spotting things!

Yep - I've returned two TAGs recently - Carrera Chronos. Hands not lining up and Chronograph hands getting stuck...

What's perfect to one person is imperfect to someone who has an eye for detail. The world of design is full of this kind of thing. I don't mean liking one design over another but a design that's wrong because the person who designed the item doesn't know about design and thinks having Illustrator or Photoshop makes what ever graphic that is being created "professional" even if the reality is otherwise. Hope that makes sense! Bit like driving a Bowler not automatically making you a driving god.

Whats wrong with expecting perfection in an expensive prestige item? My Breitling collection range from £1,800 to £35k and i expect each and every one of them to be perfect because thats what ive paid for. I think its a sad state of affairs to be accused of being a mongaloid just for wanting what they claim to provide.

The hands on my Breitling Aerospace have never lined up exactly and there's always been a bit of dust on the top LCD panel.

I bought it in 1996, is it too late to take it back?

For £35k, I'd expect the watch to be 100% perfect. You'd expect a brand new car to be 100% perfect for £35k!!!

I think the gold watches reach mid £20,000 there are many of these like the emergency and some Bentley models for that kind of price.

They make watches like the Bentley mulliner tourbillon which would be over £30,000 easily.
