Ladies Gucci watch - worth it?
Discussion
Mrs DL likes this watch:

It's £545 in the high street. She wants something for everyday use - she already has a Raymond Weil watch that she never wears.
I'm not a big watch person, and am put off by the brand. Does anyone know if Gucci make decent watches, or is it really a £50 watch with Gucci stamped on it?

It's a nice enough watch, if you get enough discount......

Don't do it, seriously!
Both the missus and I have Gucci watches.
Mine, days out of warranty - one of the bracelet pins fell out and the watch fell off my wrist. Not the pins for adjusting the bracelet, but the ones that are used for the first few non-adjustable links and are supposed to be completely fixed and hidden/polished over.
Gucci wouldn't honour the warranty - like I said it was a few days out, but normally there's flexibility. They wanted hundreds for a new braclet.
The Missus, battery indicator said the battery needed changing. Took to authorised dealer who wanted £50 - WTF? Not only that, when they opened it they said the problem was not the battery but one of the clips holding the battery was damaged and they'd need to send to to Gucci for a full £150 service - for a quartz?
They're sh!te.

Oh well, we looked at others, and Mrs DL was starting to admire £1000 watches so I thought I'd better get the Gucci bought.
Only 2 jewellers in town had it in stock, one refused to reduce the price and the other offered a "token" £25 off, and believe me, I tried hard. It's not an ideal bargaining position when the person you're buying for is there and my wife would cheerfully pay whatever price was asked - if they'd asked for £50 to size it she wouldn't query it.
I did query reliability etc and mentioned that "someone I know" had problems with Gucci - the shop manager said that I'd be dealing with him not Gucci which I took as a positive thing. I liked him and the girl who was dealing with us, especially as she kept flashing her tits at me - my missus probably arranged that.
They do charge £45 for battery change, but as Mrs DL also has a Raymond Weil quartz then I'm used to that level of charge from a jeweller. There is a watch repair kiosk in town who will change the battery for a tenner though - they'll even pressure test it if you're prepared to leave it for a while.
