Depleting Daytona Desirability?
Discussion
Seen a few -ve comments on the current desirability of the SS Daytona here and on various chat sites recently. Is the image starting to tarnish?
Chatting to Dom H, he mentioned tales of people getting them from AD's in the UK within a few months at RRP. I was offered 2 in 3 months from an AD in Europe at Euro RRP but turned them down due to the Euro/£ exchange rate making them the equivalent price of the current over-inflated Burlington Arcade offerings.
I love the watch, but has the modern version had it's day as an object of ultimate desirability and status? Has it been effected by the endless price rises from Rolex? - the latest rumoured one coming on 1st May of 8%. 8% on a 6k watch is the 'thick-end' of £500!!
I know that I like the Daytona style, but if I'm honest with myself part of the reason for wanting it was the fact that it was difficult to get hold of.

From what I've read on here too many people aspire and do eventually purchase the Daytona, but as a status-symbol of wealth rather than a nicely engineered watch. I think someone on here mentioned that they seem to be as common in London as Porsche 911's!
To be honest if you like the watch for what it is, then go for it and don't worry about the -ve comments. At the end of the day it is a fantastic watch and personally I think the Daytona is one of the best looking Rolex watches available
From recent episodes of The Apprentice, Suralan seems to think so too!

Who ever said they are as common as Porsche in London is talking out of their backside.
But I agree 100% on the fact that you buy a watch because you want it and no other reason.
If someone buys one to impress other people then they really should get a life.
The Daytona is a great watch, but it has never really appealed to me & I do suspect several have been bought because it's "the thing to do" in some peoples minds.

Instead of the Daytona, I've saved myself a 'grand' and gone for the one below. Simply due to the fact that I fell in love with it when I tried it on. It's massive, but suits my size and the industry I work in......

If i had the choice between the two, then id choose this too. Nice watch
