Hi - after some advice and opinions please!

I'm thinking about purchasing a new watch and am undecided as to what I'd like. I already have an Omega Seamaster which I wear everyday, as well as a Longine which I tend to only wear for evening events.

I've been looking at pre-owned watches and was surprised at what my budget could get me. I'm quite tempted by the idea of a Rolex, or maybe a Tag Monaco which I've always fancied.

To help me start my search, does anyone have any ideas as to what to go for? Also, are there any negatives with going for a pre-owned watch?

Go for a Submariner. A second hand sub will keep its value and you can't really lose out.

u got time?

If you can I would lift the budget slightly and buy 2 Damasko's

DA36 and a DC66...... Because of the slow supply I'm sure you would hold your money but spending 2k is soon forgotten and when it is just keep them!!

Awsome watches! and not every one would want to rip them off your wrist! the average spud just looks for bling and rolex's

For me it would have to be a Omega Planet Ocean reliable, robust classic but probably not the Tango version

For £2000 you will get a beauty

allow £3000+ for a good Submariner date

Zenith El Primero would be my choice used.

New, I'd go for what I went for when I was in your shoes - Omega Speedy Pro Moonwatch.

Certainly wouldn't be miffed with either of your picks either though lol.

The Omegas look great - especially liking the Moon Watch - but already having a Seamaster, I'm thinking a change of manufacturer would be nice.

Any other suggestions?

I'd go the used route. Buy from the likes of Blowers and you'll get a mint condition watch previously worth more than your budget allows.

They are awesome, but I just got over £1,650 for my 66, so maybe a 36 & a 56 would be closer in budget terms.

My very strong recommendation would always be to buy pre-owned off TZ-UK if possible. £2k can buy anything from 4 great watches to 1 super watch as long as you're patient & of course depreciation is minimal if you buy carefully.

2k just got me one of these. Love it. It was a toss up between this or an IWC aquatimer.

That's a nice looking watch, but RW aren't investment pieces of course. Which is fine if you bought it just cos you like it and want to wear it!

On a £1500-2000 budget a very good Omega or a decent used Rolex is within reach and these will hold their value or appreciate.

Which is an important point of view, personally I'm not a "watch trader" every watch I've bought I've considered it a watch for life and then for me to choose someone else to enjoy it, the criteria have always been that they should have timeless style and classical beauty, they should most certainly be chronometers, and they should always hold their value (as much as possible) For those reasons I'd never really considered RW, however having just seen that one I'd say it fits the bill for the first two only really leaving a question mark over the the future value question, so what's the opinion on here, in 40 years time will RW have become a classic? will they be as established as some of the others? or will they have simply slipped by as an "also ran around the turn of the century?" or indeed may they have gained a cult following?

I'd go the pre-owned Rolex Sub route. At least that way if you don't like it long term then you've 'done' Rolex and you'll get most if not all of your money back when you trade it for something else - unlike 'most' other brands. Chances are you'll keep the Rolex though.
