Wedding present for fathers of the groom and bride
Discussion
Am getting married at the end of June and thought it would be nice to buy my dad and father-in-law watches as wedding presents.
Looking for a nice dress watch, classy and understated. Dad currently wears a patek phillipe and FIL wears a seiko so this may be a bit of a shock!!!
Budget up to 1000 per piece may be persuaded to go up to 1500 for something special. Any recommendations?
Thanks,
John

Great idea.
I'm assuming you want to buy them the same watch? Which kind of rules out second hand due to pricing condition and availability variation.
How about an Omega DeVille? Lots to choose from case shapes, sizes etc...
If your Dad has a PP whatever you get him will be sentimental rather than a step up. But your FIL would no doubt be blown away by the upgrade!

Something from Nomos might do the job? Very nice and understated, but look amazing!

All comfortably within budget, and I'm sure you can work some sort of discount if you buy two!

I would be inclined to go for a couple of beautifully refurbished vintage watches. A Patek owner is much more likely to appreciate this.
How about a classic Longines, or similar? I would probably steer away from an older Omega, simply because there are a lot about and it doesn't show a great deal of originality in thinking.
There are many dealers on ebay that could supply very nice pieces well within your budget.

Hi - thanks for the feedback guys and alex thanks for the compliment. My thoughts were going along similar lines to the vintage watches. I know that my FIL did own a Rolex previously but it was unfortunately stolen a long time ago. My dad has a rolex oyster air-king-date which I inherited when I graduated.
Ideally, I would have like to present them with rolex's of their birth year (1944) - although watch / make doesn't necessarily need to be the same. Also, not sure whether my budget would stretch to ones of that vintage though.
Also, any particular ebay sellers that you would recommend? Or any retailers in London? I am based in SW london but work in the barbican area.
Anyone had any dealings with the Antique Watch Co. on Clerkenwell Road?
Keep the thought / suggestions coming - brain has enough to deal with with wedding coming up soon!
Thanks
