Well, my new watch arived and it's lovely.
However...
I can't seem to set the time. The date is set as normal but no atter where youry to position the crown you cannot change the time. The strap was adjusted and the pins that hold were very old and worn so I'm thinking mabye it needs a service. Any ideas on cost? the crystal and bezel are mint so it's probably just the insides (ok maybe a light polish to look really special biggrin) that need attention. Should it go toan official Omega shop or can I take it to a jewellers?

Also, what about the guy, should I contact him? He's got a Rolex I want too...hehe

Can anyone recommend somewhere to get an Omega repaired in North Norfolk or elsewhere? By post maybe? What should I be paying?

OK, here are a couple of , admitedly rather poor, shots of my watches (does two count as a collection?). I'm going vintage as I cannot possiby aford the watches some of are fortunate to own. One day they will be mine, oh yes, one day....

My Vintage Seiko 5, kept in storage for 25 years so bought brand spanking new about a month ago.

This is my new one, a vintage Omega Seamaster. Got it for a great price but can't seem to change the time frown which is probably why rolleyes

And a wrist shot.

Hope you like guys, I've learnt a lot on this part of PH and got some great advice too. Excuse the crap photo's. One of my pet hates crappy little digital camera's but I recently broke my DSLR. Could probably have got another but I clicked on the watches forum and not photography....smile

About £70-£75 for a service. I know a very skilled watch maker who charges this for automatic date Omegas and Id be surprised if it needed more than that spending.

GC8 - could you pass me his details please? Or pass mine to him, whatever.

Neil - of course not, although I can't tell you the year. New to watches but (I think) it's 1980's. I paid £150 off the 'Bay. smile

I thought it was more 1970s. Like I say, not "vintage" but more "retro".

That's what I was thinking, looks early 80's. Good price too.

I'll sort it out and post it up. To find out about the watch really, you need to remove the back. The serial number on the movement will date the piece (youll see the calibre number too) and the case reference on the inside of the case back will identify the exact model.

Maplins watch case back remover: £6.99
Got one on Saturday. Does the trick. Suitable for most screw back cases.

OK, so I had the back removed today and the movement etc had the Omega logo on :wipesbrowwithreliefsmiley:
and at the bottom it had these numbers;
1660206
3660842
Now, being a pleb I couldn't seem to figure the Omega website out and get an idea of what this watch is. Any help would be much appreciated.
Also, now the bloody thing isn't telling the time either so it is going to have to be repaired and serviced. Ballpark quotes are so far ranging from £70 to £350/400. What should I be paying, roughly?

Thanks for the above ^^ I will call him tomorrrow.

£85! He may charge a 25% premium due to the watch being vintage, but that depends on whether its in a poor state, I think.

The model number is 366.0842 (166.0206 is the case reference: some watches combine). Calibre 1010 or 1012. The serial number on the calibre will identify the year of production; but Id guess 1976.

This is from Omega's vintage watches reference, which you can join to view.

Its a 1973 judging by the 36 start to the serial number. 1976 would have been 39

readit I wish to retract all of the aboverolleyes

I think that £85 is brilliant for a complete strip clean and rebuild. Itll come back looking like new and any new parts (hands or crystal) that you send with it, will be fitted for free too.
