Hi Guys!

As per the title please,

This watch belonged to my dad, who died in 1982. I was born in 1981 so it instantly became mine, needless to say I wasn't much interested in it back then. It was stored in a suitcase full of his stuff for 20 years before I had it serviced, glass changed about 6 years ago. My mum knows very little about it other than it cost about £200 in 1970. That is all I know!
Im not planning on selling it, just wondered if anyone knew anything about it...

Regards,

Neil

Hi Neil,

Your Dads' watch looks well, complete with the original bracelet. As you already know, it's a typical late 60's early 70's Omega Seamaster. I had one of these a couple of years back, if you get the oppurtunity get the back off (a good watchmaker will have the tool) and have a look inside, for a 'plain jane' watch the movement is really well finished.

nice, and obviously a keeper...

Hi Neil,

Like Dominic has said already, that is a fine example. Do you have the serial and/or case number?? If so, log onto the main Omega website and click on the vintage section.

You will have to register to use it, then enter the number and Omega should have all the details of the watch.

If you are into watches - then come on over to TZ-UK and post it there as there is a number of Omega experts on there who might be able to tell you about it.

Neil,

Really nice background provenance to this watch. I'm an old Omega fan (old as in old watch and old bloke) and this looks like a good example. There's no doubt you must keep it! Whether you wish to keep it in the conditon it is in because it relates back to your Dad or get it fully up to date with a service etc is up to you, but I'd try and leave as is.

Lovely looking watch you have though. If you don't mind me asking, I want to get mine serviced etc, where did you get yours done, what did it cost and would you recommend them?

A lovely watch, and a precious thing.

It's lovely to inherit a watch from a father, gives a wonderful feeling of being close to them when you wear it.

Wear it in good health.... thumbup

Thank you to all for your comments. It is of course one to keep and pass on.
Sadly I had to have a good service done and the glass changed as it was badly cracked, done by the old man - clumsy. Im sure it is best to have it in all its former glory, a bit like a classic car.

Joe, I had to serviced at a parkhouse and wyatt, they sent it away. I can't remember the cost exactly but I think it was under £100. But that was for a new glass as it was cracked fron top to bottom.
