Hello watch aficionados.

I am looking to buy an Omega Seamaster 300 M Chronometer.
I have a classic Seamaster from 1970 and would like to complement it with a modern one. Here is my thread from a while back - thanks for you help BTW.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

My question is - can anyone recommend a place to buy one? I dont mind getting it mail order as Im sure going through my local decent watchmaker I would be paying over the odds.

Can anyone recommend me somewhere? Mail order or company to deal with where people have had previous good experiences?

Thanks in advance.

Neil,

Which model 300m are you after?

Have a look on here, then let me know which one you want....

Hi Dom,

Well I like these two for their robust appearance and simplicity.

1) http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=283&n...

2) http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=286

However a question for you.

Is the James Bond thing, a bit, well, naff? If I were to present that at a watchmakers would the feeling be 'what a wannbee wally'?
Im not normally one for caring about others opinions, but spending all that money on somehthing that may be stigmatised and reduced in value/desirability would be regretable.

If so then number 3 is a good compromise I think.

Thanks all,

Neil

Hi Neil,

Aren't 1 & 3 the same? If so, as Al points out the only difference is one is a quartz and the other is a co-axial automatic. Whichever you choose will be fine, watchmakers won't laugh at you. If you chose a Jacob & Co, watchmakers will tut, shake their head and rolleyes ....

Personally, I'd always favour a mechanical watch especially one with a movement created by George Daniels probably the greatest living watchmaker....

You'd be surprised......

I got a 15% discounted price at my local High St Omega dealer when I bought my titanium Seamaster Pro 18 months or so ago......so was only a little bit above what you'd pay for on-line, and I was glad I did when I had problems with it a few months back and it ended up having to go back to Omega.

I've been researching a speedmaster for a while and so far Dominic has been the best price for a UK one. There are cheaper on the web but not by much and the UK warranty is not guaranteed from the places I've found. High street dealers are offering good deals but still higher than Mr H.

Dominic, SWMBO has gone cold on the speedmaster I emailed about - will let you know once I've persuaded her that it's a good idea for me to have one wink

Neil.D - having also purchased a watch from Dominic H, (Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra) I can also thoroughly recommend him; both in terms of a highly competetive price and a friendly, professional service.

Hi Dominic, do you offer a guarantee as I assume the official Omega guarantee cant be used as not an AD ? I will be interested in a Planet Ocean when my money comes through.

Did that at Christmas before I found out about your services smile

Can't help you there I'm afraid....Sounds like a definate redcard for Mrs R6 for the lack of excitement regarding the Speedy, following said jewellery purchase.

Neil, if you dont mind used, i have a "bond" seamaster (no 007, just the full size automatic known as the bond version), that i may be selling.
Its unworn since a full service at Omega UK, where it also had new hands, dial refurb/relume & a brand new bracelet fitted.
It dosent get any wrist time as i wear the Panerai as a daily watch.
Box & papers etc.

Email me if interested.

Darren.
