Breitling Avenger Seawolf

I'm considering purchasing my first decent watch and really like the look of the Seawolf http://www.bankslyon.co.uk/details.php?product=686... Just wandering where you'd recommend as the best place to buy from in terms of getting a good price, or alternatively any other make that may be better in terms of reliability or quality for a similar price? I prefer the metal straps and am not keen on anything too chunky or with too many widgets on the dial.
Watches to me are a mystery so I have no idea what is good/bad or what is/isn't classy. Working in finance in the City and occasionally meeting clients I want something with class but not too brash that those in the know will think 'nice'

You could try Dominic H on here, he's sourced watches for plenty of people on here.

A quick Google says they are around the £2k mark?

Have you looked at Omega? in particular the Planet Ocean model.

My money would be going on an Anonimo, don't know what it is about them, I just really like them for some reason.



If you don't mind going 2nd hand, you can get some even nicer watches for that sort of money!

For a couple of grand you could get a nice second-hand Rolex steel sport something or other - Explorer, Explorer II, GMT Master, Submariner, something like that. These are bullet proof - I've worn one as my daily wear for twenty odd years, and I've never had one go wrong on me. You will have a watch that most people will recognise instantly, and which will hold its value -if you decide to sell it after a while you will probably get back most of what you paid provided you hang on to all the boxes and paperwork. Unless you plan to keep it forever, I wouldn't buy a Breitling simply because you'll lose a shedload when you sell it, even if you buy at a discount. Each to his own though.

IMO it depends if you want your watch to demonstrate quality/success or the fact you know about watches.

If the former, I'd look at Omegas or Rolex or maybe IWC(others on here will recommend which models).


If the latter, I'd be looking at Panerai (probably the radomir, so it will actually fit under your shirt cuffs - and it's not as brash as a Luminor), Thingy Lange Sohne, JLC, etc (again others on here will have more knowledge of 'better' brands).

I have a Seawolf and it's a great watch. In fact the company Banks Lyon that you posted the link for are very good and that's where I bought my Seawolf from. I've just placed a deposit with them for another Breitling.

I have one too, its a nice watch, just try it on first if you can. Its quite large and the body is very tall, sometimes does not fit under a dress shirt.

Really useful. If you are 3000m down, I suspect the last thing you will be worrying about is whether your watch is letting in water.

I'm not a big fan of Breitling, but I must admit this particular one looks OK on the tan strap. A Toshi?

Thanks for all your advice guys. We're just in the process of deciding if we want to move house at present so until I know what we're doing I'm going to hold back on spending a couple of grand on a watch. Good point as well on the height issue, hadn't thought of that and with most of my shirts being double cuff its a big consideration.
