http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/1096320.htm

I have recently consolidated my watch collection. Got offered what I paid for my Planet Ocean, sold a few of the cheaper older stuff that just doesn't get worn and my old man took my GMT off me - which was bought in a drunken haze.

As such, the only real watch that I have that still goes near my wrist is my Tag Carrera 40th Anniversary Legend and that has a rubber strap - so not perfect for every occasion.

So I want a new watch and to spend some of the proceeds.

Needs to be on a bracelet. I think it needs to be a Rolex too. Wearing a Rolex is like an occasion in itself, it just looks great.

But is the above too 'bling'. It needs to be something I am 100% set on as I won't be changing for a while. So it's this is something like http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/1102084.htm which is much simpler.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and 'each to his own' and all that, but personally anything gold puts me right off.

However, if you like it buy it and don't worry what anyone else thinks.

each to their own, but I find gold / steel on a rolex to be very naff looking. That said I'm not a huge fan of gold at all.

Nothing wrong with a bi-metal sub, I wear mine every day. If you go for one get the blue face (like the one you've linked to) the black face looks cheaper imho. When I bought mine I was lucky enough to be able to compare the blue and black side by side and had no doubts that the blue faced watch was coming home with me.

As said above, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, if you like it buy it. It's you who will be looking at it every day. smile

I have noticed gold/steel mix always 'linger' on the SC - if gold IMO only single colour (some watches are better in gold ( e.g. some Audemars ) I would certainly only consider EITHER steel OR gold - not mixed ( but, eye of the beholder etc and it's your money !)

It would be a strange world if we likes the same things but unlike Mr MoJo I find the bi-metal sub with blue face a bit "nouveau riche" and in your face. I prefer the straight stainless myself - quieter but the connoisseurs will know what you are wearing.

A guy in my office has one and it looks a bit dated to my eyes. Mind you, his is battered to bits which may affect my judgement!

Personally, I'd go single metal these days, but as the others have said you have to buy what you like and not worry what other people think. If you like it, buy it.

Most of the crap fakes I see are in one form of bi-metal or another.

No - no on bi-metal
For me, the new (2 years) GMT Master II gets my vote, in StSt of course!
(But i'm biased!)

Yes. See link above. I really like it but the rubber strap means its not suitable all the time. I would like to source a nice leather strap for it. So if anyone has any ideas on that I would be keen to listen.
