What are your informed opinions of 'Timex' watches - are they a quality brand name or just naff?

OK, I'll narrow it down a bit - opinions of this model in particular would be appreciated:

I usually think of them as kids watches. I had one 25 years ago. It still works, but I havent worn it for about 20 years . Saying that though, there is a very nice looking black and silver Timex chronograph in argos.

What about this instead?

Seiko with a nice automatic mechanical movement, similar in style to the Timex you posted and cheaper too. Only bad thing about them is that the metal bracelets can feel a bit cheap.

Fifty nicker for a perpetual calendar isn't bad, quartz or no, but I bet it's a git to set...

Here's a review of a Timex automatic. Executive summary: Chinese automatic movement, not the greatest bracelet, but overall great value at $80 for an auto with power reserve.

ETA: Actually, you could probably posh-up the watch in the link by tossing the bracelet and spending twenty quid on a decent leather strap.

Thanks for the advice guys - I originally saw the Timex in Macro & it looks 100% better in the flesh, also it's on offer for £14........I'll probably purchase it this weekend & post a decent pic.
