That's a very nice watch and, should you find one, I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. But...

It's NOT a "Moon Watch". It is a limited edition Speedmaster with a Co-Axial movement. It has a completely different movement and is not flight qualified. That's not a complaint, just pointing out that it's not a moon watch in case that's what you actually wanted.

I have this watch, but won't be selling.

However, I do know where the corresponding brand new 18kt yellow version is for sale at an AD and it was 1 of only 57 - same box, tools, SS/Croc strap etc.... smile

Hi,

Am I right in saying the original moon movement was the c.1863? if so can you still get this?

Despite what the advertising for the current 40th Anniversary Moonwatch says, the answer is no.

The movement in the current, flight qualified, Speedmaster Professional "Moon Watch" is a c1861. The c1863 is a version of that but without the "plastic" brake and is used in the display back models. The display back models are not flight qualified. In fact, the term "Moon Watch" really only refers to one specific model in the current range: The 3570.50. If you prefer something a bit closer to that which was used at the time then you'll have to go vintage.

The original movement was the c321. This is the movement that was in the original NASA tests in 1965. The movement was replaced in 1968 by the c861. This later movement was in the second round of NASA testing which took place in 1978.

The c1861 is basically a rhodium plated version of the c861.

Hope that's clear enough for you.

Yes, it's a Moon watch. Manual wind Speedies with "Professional" on the dial, hesselite crystal and the "Flight qualified" stainless back are the Moon Watch.

Sounds like a standard Speedy Pro.

The serial number should be on the back of the 7 O'Clock lug. It is very small.

That doesn't look like the right format, but I could be wrong and it's just an older model.

I had one of these in my hand today, it is a stunning piece without a doubt, the finish on the movement is fabulous.
As I already have a Speedy I did not buy, it has a manual wind co-axial movement rather than the 1861 speedy version but it is a joy to look at.

I bought a Planet Ocean instead paperbag fantastic deal on it though !
