Thank you. Well I'll tag the question here then. Do say if you think it's worth a fresh posting.

My partner has been harking for a new diamond ring for some time, and I happen to have about 2 grand to offer her for one.

We could buy from the jewellery quarter Birmingham. Is a diamond ring an investment or a bad idea given the climate? Thought it was worth a quick question before the grand gesture wink

You should buy it because you like it rather than an investement.

Having said that, you should get a very nice ring with good diamonds for that money. I would possibly be looking for diamond ceretification at that price, depending on the diamond size/quantity. The size of finger can imnpact on the amount of gold used too, and hence the price.

To give examples I bought a mens 18ct with 3 x 0.1ct uncertified stones at an independent in the UK about 3 years ago for about £850. About 8 months ago I bought a smaller (for little finger) 18ct ring with 8 x 0.1ct certified (next to best colour, VS1) stones in Cape Town for about the same price.

The main factors regarding the "quality" of the piece, diamond-wise, are the size/clarity/colour and cut.

Lol. Well I see it as an investment (I may as well not do that tbh, as it's not something we would sell at some point is it frankly)

A ring is for life right?

Thank you Dominic.

Partner has been wanting a three diamond ring for some time. She has very small fingers as her build is petite.

I see you're London based?

She would like to buy from the jewellery quarter Birmingham I think as we both know it and are reasonably close...any suggestions?

I'm home tomorrow if you fancy calling me. Number on web site on profile.

Many thanks!
