Looking to invest in a decent watch and want something stylish but also durable. Bell & Ross produce some cool looking watches, but are they worth the £££ or are they over priced and get away with it seen as they use the words Pilot, Military etc?

Can't speak from experience as never owned a Bell & Ross, but if you are looking there are a few others to look at.

Depending on your budget would look at Omega Planet Ocean or Seamaster, Glycine, Fortis and Sinn. I am sure some others will be along shortly with more suggestions.

Are you looking at the BR instruments range or the more traditional range?

the trad range includes some nice pieces at reasonable prices (but beware there are a mix of quartz, manual and auto movements and different sizes that impact on price).

I particularly like the cream faced watches they do in the trad range.

Jura watches has a good selection on line

I was looking at this one:- http://www.jurawatches.co.uk/watch.asp?productid=1...

Having not tried it on, I cannot say whether it will suit my wrist, but I do like the style.

On the other hand, I'd quite like a Omega Speedmaster.

If you're anywhere near Lakeside shopping centre, there is a jeweller's that stock them (can't recall the name).

You should be able to get a proper look at them I would have thought?

I have a B&R 01-92 Phamtom, and I utterly adore it. Nothing like it... I know the moving bits are rehashed ETA movements, but they are just so damn cool.

Sorry about this Omega guys, but for me Omegas are 10 a penny, or like BMW's. Something to aspire to, but everyone now has one. B&R's stand out (sometimes in not very good ways), of the crowd for me, and I'm looking for number two... (the phantom is difficult to read when DJing in a club....biggrin)

* puts flame suit on for the Omega/BMW comment *

I like the look of that - different from anything else around.

Wouldn't say that a seamaster was a direct competitor, make sure you really like it before you buy it

Jura has a shop in London so you try on there

I have always found the guys in there helpful

BR-01 looks to my eyes like one of those Westclox Baby Ben travel alarms from the late 70s/early 80s.

The only problem with the B&R instruments range is the re-sale prices can be a bit soft. They are an acquired taste, and not always easy to move on if you decide it's not for you.

The Speedie on the other hand is a classic and re-sale is normally quite good.

But you're the one who is going to be looking at the watch all the time, so if you really like the B&R I say go for it. wink

I have that watch, different strap. B&R watches are an aquired taste and they do get noticed but they are much cooler and more original than the dullness that is an Omega... This is mine:

That said that £1900 is quite expensive. I got mine through TZ, it was used but had been worn once and still had all the stickers etc on it, it was about a grand cheaper than the one at Jura. They don't come up that often but they do now and again so have a look at what is out there used.

I'm afraid that they look like the sort of thing a saleschild in a mobile phone shop might sport.

The sort with much "product" in their hair, a £49 suit and a whiff of fag smoke.
