Can anyone let me know what the Werner watches are like quality wise, I have a number of quality branded watches already (tag, rolex, Breitling etc), I started my working life in the Jewellery trade 30 years ago and served my apprenticeship manufacturing in Hatton Garden. Have always felt that one of the tell tale signs of cheaper watches is the weight and general feel of the watch. With this in mind how do the Werner watches compare with Tag, Rolex etc.
Sorry if ths sounds like ramblings of a madman, however really like the look of Werners but dont wont to waste anynes time ordering one if they feel cheap and light and have to return it.
Many thanks

I've had about 5 or 6 watches from that company - I love the quirky, yet traditional designs. I wouldn't use your "weight and feel" measure as a good way of decided what makes a quality watch. Some of the Astroavias (of which they've cutting down stock due to the price) do feel very light and the strap is very thin. However, the Aeromatics and Tauchmeisters feel a lot more substantial with nicer, more suitable straps.
The Tauchmeisters I've tried feel marginally heavier than a Seiko Monster or SKX007, and definitely heavier than an Omega Speedmaster and Breitling Chronomat. Automatic Aeromatics feel around the same in terms of weight. In fact, the only watch that feels heavier than those Tauchmeisters is an Enzo Mechana EM001 but that would be obvious if you've tried one.
If you're around the Surrey area, you're welcome to pop in and have a look (I currently have 3).
PS Which watches are you eyeing up? I may have tried or owned them...

I've just been in email contact with Nick at Werners, asking whether a particular watch could be supplied with a different strap, and although they don't have a suitable alternative, Nick has not only helped me with an opinion on an alternative which I can order elsewhere, but also offered me a discount on the watch to compensate for the fact that he couldn't help directly! And all on a Sunday!
Seems like excellent service, and I'll be calling to place my order tomorrow.

That's the one.
Not sure what the movement is but I was reading that due to the poor quality of most 'Asian watches' the Jewel count never actually exceeds 17 although most specify 20-25. Therefore for this to specify 35 seems quite high to be derived from Asia....the seconds hand does sweep quite smoothly!
Anyway, interesting watch and good for the price me thinks.
