Hi,

I am not a great watch fan, but could do with a little advice from the forum.
I really like my Rolex GMT 2, which I have worn every day for the past 22 years.
It is a gold and s/s, with the clasp in s/s. Black face.
Never missed a beat, and still looks good.

I am drawn to a new Rolex, I don't use the time zone bit, and may consider a (cheaper) sub, and I do like the mixed metal.

Has mine got much value, and would it be a good move ?

Thanks.

Nigel, speaking from a purely commercial POV this is my opionion.

If you're thinking of buying a brand new Sub from an AD, you'd be swaping an appreciating item for an item (that in the short to medium term at least) would be depreciating.
If you were to buy a used Sub (that's a few years old) you'd be swapping an appreciating item for something that would hold it's value.

There are people on here that could give you a much more accurate valuation of your GMT than me, so I'll leave that to them!

If it was me, I think I'd keep the GMT. But I'm a tight git!

Are you sure your GMT is a '2' and not s straight GMT? Silly question maybe, but I thought the GMT2s were more recent than 22 years!

eta - bugger time flies. GMT 2 came out in 1983 apparently!

I'm a tight git as well, and I do like appreciating assets. If that is the situation with my watch, then I will hold on, enjoy it for its asthetic and functional qualitys, safe in the knowledge that its reached a point where I can trade at any time at a given value which should not decrease with time. Thanks very much Ross for your input, and on the assumtion that 456 is relavent, a fine choice indeed.

I'll bet this one (GMT not GMT II, I know) is on sale for more than you paid for yours all those years ago? http://www.watches.co.uk/watch.php?wid=8370S

I paid £2150 for a new SS GMT with black bezel in 1999 and will never part with it though I do fancy buying a Sub or SD to go with it... Will definitely go second hand next time.
