After seeing a mate on a Stag do recently, i noticed his watch, turns out it was a

http://www.stormwatches.com/watches/mens/hydron--1...

I really liked this watch, probably in Slate variety.

I also noticed this aswell

http://www.stormwatches.com/watches/mens/malik-126...

All i am after is opinions on what people think of this watch, so feel free to say its not to your taste.

If anyone has any recommendations feel free, but i'm after one for no more than 200 of the queens finest. I can't compete with some of you big boys...yet wink

I like Big faces, not huge, just a bit big and chunky, also something a little different, or even normal.

Like the first one, especially in grey but the second doesn't float my boat at all.

Kind of for the same reason that I don't like wire wheels biggrin

They are "fashion" watches, bought by people who like the designs, but generally know or care nothing about watches. Nothing wrong with that of course, but if you want something a bit more quality, that's a bit less disposable, with maybe a half decent movement, you can do far better for the money.

Have a trawl on here for "budget watch" type threads & you'll see lots of recommendations.

Budget watch... chunky... did someone say Seiko Monster? biggrin

Biased as I've just ordered one but it seems to me this watch is a classic and one for the long term collection.

CK/DKNY/GHOST/STORM, etc., all tat watches made as cheap as possible. Look great for 6 months but aren't really designed as keepers imho...

... someone will now prove me wrong with their 15 year collection of 150 Storm watches now.. smile

True but cheap doesn't necessarily mean disposable. I wear a Fossil "fashion" watch as my everyday watch, it keeps perfect time and has lasted 15 years with only a couple of batteries, indeed I think it's had more straps than batteries! It was the first present my then girlfriend, now wife, gave me and now it's slightly scratched and worn but it's still going strong. smile

I think they are probably overpriced and can only echo Mr Tims comments - but each to their own. smile

Buying pre-owned is not for everyone and potentially risky until you have a bit of knowledge, but to illustrate what you can get for your money, this cost me well under £100

If you insist on a fashion watch, I can heartily recommend Nixon watches.

I was given one of these :

'The Cannon'

I love it, solid and chunky. The hour markers are chunks of steel that stand proud of the face, super accurate and bomb proof.

....But when you can get a nice Seiko for the same price it seems like a false economy.

I like it, but then I am the sort that is attracted to watches based on how they look, not what bits of metal they have inside them.

Put it this way, I would rather have a Maser Gran Turismo with a Kia diesel engine, than Kia with a Maser V8 engine.

As you may have guessed I will never own a Seiko Monster hehe

If it was a Kia that I found aesthetically appealing.

Surely you wouldn't buy what you considered an ugly watch just because it had a particularly impressive movement hidden away inside it. Or maybe you would and aesthetics play no part in your choices.

Either way, it isn't right or wrong, it is simply a matter of what matters to you most, and to me, the movement or automatic or battery or hand wound is of less importance than the look and feel of the watch.

If some master watchmaker were to place the finest hand crafted zillion jewel swiss auto movement in a plastic Timex case I wouldn't want it at any price. wink

Is it?, oh well, bad car-ma is probably the reason I don't own either of those car combinations. hehe

To be honest, being from the CCC / PPC mould of silly little cars with preposterous engines, I'd actually really rather like a Kia Pride (the little cheap hatchback jobbie - my girlfriend's mum had one back when I first started going out with the GF) but fitted with the Maser V8, plus lairy zorsts. Would be as much of a laugh as the recent PPC article about Reliant Kittens fitted with turbos, superbike engines, dual superbike engines, gas turbines, (OK I made the last one up)... Would be a right laugh. I've got a sensible Rover 75 saloon, well it looks like it....

Nothing more embarrassing than a car that talks the talk but can't walk the walk. May as well have a Ferrari 360 replica, with nasp low-comp Toyota 4-pot and entirely the wrong sound. Of course, in the world of watches, if aesthetics is the only criterion then the world of 'replicas' makes a very strong case for itself, no?

(waiting for the worms to escape the can, hee hee)

I like that seiko above (not a fan of the monster, flame suit on!)

I remember when storm watches were sold in indoor markets for 15-20 quid, and they still have the same look to them.

The second one is very soviet styled.
Take a look at ebay, there are loads of Ukrainian sellers with soviet watches for sale for next to nothing, very quirky too, Russian date windows for example, and 15-20 quid as a beater

That's really rather nice - details of watch/strap?

Need something indestructible to go on holiday!

I have no issue with them and in the past have owned and worn a Rolex Sub and a Breitling Nav copy (not at the same time though)hehe. I didn't try to pass them off as real, and would readily admit they were fakes if asked, but I liked the way they looked and felt so enjoyed wearing them.

Cheers. The watch is a Seiko SKX009 that I paid less than £60 for pre-owned. The strap is an Inox 'Aviator Pro' Deep Padded Waterproof Leather jobby that cost me about £10 second hand but effectively new.

I also got a fantastic Seiko 5 for my lad recently - £45.00 incl P&P.
