I'm after a leather strap, white face jobby similar to some of the Longines, like L2.693.4.78.5 or L3.635.4.76.2 which I think are about £1500 - any suggestions?

Sorry I can't do links or pics yet!

If you like the Longines, and are prepared to spend £1000, i think you might regret not saving a little more, and buying the one you really like.

If you pushed for a discount you should get it for £1200/1250 i'd have thought...

If that is still for sale, it would definitely be my choice. The Stowa is a brilliant watch.

I'd go for a Stowa MO every time:

Must not be oversized, must be understated, must not be digital, must not be made of plastic.

A fine looking watch.

Not everyone will agree but I always think a leather strap and roman numerals or hour/minute markings are necessary as well...

I just think, "A watch that works with a suit and isn't sporty." (Or, any watch that looks odd on my wrist.) (Or, any watch that looks damaged rather than having wabi.)

................not a dress watch IMO. Dress watch shouldn't have complications - maybe date but thats it.

unless it has Jaeger LeCoultre on the front - in which case this counts biggrin - but way over budget

p.s. another vote for the Stowa - or Nomos if you like small watches

I see what you mean, the Stowa MO with roman numerals is definitely the type of thing. I know nothing about Stowa, are they online only or can I go and see them somewhere?

They're only online to the UK at the moment. They have a great reputation (have a poke around TZ-UK), the only thing is that they build watches to order and the lead times are 3+ months. Note that they don't charge you until the watch is ready for dispatch.
