I was considering a little purchase from Werners but after seeing these - http://www.perpetual-watch.com/

The Werners stuff seems a bit pointless.

Anyone got any experience of Perpetual?

Never heard of them.

The watches look a bit cheap and tacky.

At least with Werners, there isn't any guessing. You know you will be getting a decent watch for a good price.

Without any experience of them, I couldn't comment on their quality. One thing going for them is that, as I understand it, Aeromatics and Tauchmeisters are as German as I am. wink

Honestly? Tacky looking?

I wouldn't have said that.

As far as I can tell, he uses Sea-Gull movements.

A couple of the Big Date and GMT's look quite nice.
Might order one just to see what they're like.

Should be reliable then, from what I've heard about Sea-Gulls.

Don't quite a few of the Werner's offerings use Sea Gull movements?

Have a look at some of the unboxing threads on watchuseek, they are all in the 'chinese mechanical watches' forum. They seem to be top drawer.

Have a look at the new watches on the US Seagull site too, they have some nice modern designs coming through.

Can't post any links from my ipod frown

Personally I think every single watch on Werners is hideous, and I do genuinely mean every watch.

But obviously some people like them.

I don't like the retrograde GMT watch on the Perpetual site, but do like the big date (I'm after a big date cos I can't see tiny ones now.

Much prefer the Perpetual ones to Werners

Given that 50% of them are copies (not in the illegal sense) of other watches, that's quite a big statement.

reading around on Watchuseek.com in the chinese forum, the Perpetuals seem to have a good reputation. I've just spotted the regulator as well and I'm tempted by that, although if they had a nice big single hand watch that really would swing it. Meistersinger's and Karl Falk's are as rare as hens teeth on the 2nd hand market.

I might flip my Oris and buy.

I love those Auto tourbillon although they are a bit on the thick side, I could be tempted smile

They do a Seagull Tourbillon for £1300$780.

That's £500-ish.

I don't have £500 spare at the moment (the disks and brake pipes on the car have spoken for that, this month), but if I did...

...hmmmm.

shouldn't the red pointer be at just past 10 or 22?

Only if you want it to show the same time as the main hour hand. The point of a second hour hand is that it can show a different time zone! wink
