I see that Stowa do a version of their Flieger without 'Stowa' on the face.

This got me thinking...
Knowing how threads about fake watches usually go, I'm coming at this from a different angle.

Would the appeal of a genuine Rolex, Omega, Breitling, Panerai or any other 'known name' watch be the same if the name did not appear anywhere on the piece?

A homage / fake with no brand or logo would appeal to me more, if anything.

However, even at that, I still wouldn't buy one.

If resale wasn't an issue then I'd probably prefer a non-branded watch. Like any kind of branding its only purpose is to inform people other than the purchaser what it is.

I don't agree with that. Some of my "branded" watches I have bought are worn solely around the house, and not to show off or anything. I love how they look, I love the intricacy of the movement and I enjoy wearing them purely for their own sake.

A Sin 556 without any writing or branding would be so cool.

In fact, if they removed the date as well, that would be even better.

Exactly, you love them for what they are rather than for the logo. So if you had the option of buying the same watch with/without the logo then I assume you'd be happy to go without it.

Amidoingitrite ?

I know what you mean though, and slightly off topic, I wish Casio wouldn't label EVERY function on a watch.

Read the manual, the light is such a button, use it once and I'll remember, no need to print "LIGHT" on the actual watch, I'm not a goldfish.

And besides, how do you find the light button in the dark if it's labelled anyway?

Looks great. Can you do it to a Mondaine too?

Ooer. Can you remove the sub-minute markers on the Sinn (leave the 5 minute ones there)?

Personally I don't really like sterile dials, they look too naked somehow. Equally I don't like too much writing on the dial (yes, I'm talking to you Rolex and Breitling), it needs to be balanced.

Here's some examples of what I mean:

The text to the right balances the sub-seconds to the left.

The "Defy" and the date below the centre balance the logo and text above.

The pic doesn't show it well, but the red F1-2000 is unnecessary, the G-P above is already balanced by the register at 6.

I am a fan of both styles, in the last couple of days I have been wearing:

But I would love a Sinn 656 and a Mondaine. Have advised the wife to get me a quartz Mondaine for my birthday (auto second hand doesn't look right on a Mondaine imo)....

Can't decide on a bracelet or a black leather strap for the 656 though...

biggrin

And when you show them the watch, tap loudly on the desk in time with the second hand.
