My 1978 Speedmaster has not been used for a good many years and now needs a damn good repair/overhaul/service. Apart from sending it back to Omega can anyone recommend a good watchsmith? (btw I live Oop North).

C,

I don't have a Speedie but I do have a Seamaster. Recently I had it fully serviced. Like you I was not sure how to go about it having been stung the previous time by a well know high street outlet and it took ages to get the watch back. This time I settled for Swiss Time Services Limited, which is the Omega UK recommended service company. It is based in Rochford, Essex. I took the watch there, met the engineer who would do the work, he took the watch away for a quick look then quoted me £180 for the full works and a three week turnaround. I accepted the quote which turned out to be the price I paid. The watch was back with me within a week! The price is fixed by Omega..any other watch repairs will be significantly cheaper, apparently, so maybe my Porsche Design PO11 will be there in due course.

I can recommend this company and you can mail your watch and get a quote before going ahead.

Their website is www.swisstimeservices.com

If you need more info let me know.

R.
