Unless I'm being particularly stupid it now looks as if TZ-UK's Sales Corner is invisible to people without forum accounts. As mine was apparently deleted a few months ago (lord only knows why - I've never done anything wrong that I was aware of) it means I can no longer view this great resource at all.

I'll be honest - their motto of "A friendly place to discuss watches without oppressive moderation" rings rather hollow. rolleyes

Yep, it's invisible if you're not logged in and there's a minimum post count of 50 for members to access it.

Blame the spammers and scammers from foreign climes. They're even making fake offers to Wanted posters as someone got scammed quite recently by a zero poster. Hence the need for 50 posts. TZ-UK is a one-man band so I am not surprised he's got better things to do than constantly delete. Personally, if I were Eddie (admin), I'd just shut the forum down or let someone buy it off me. But last I heard, it's open for registration during the daytime (GMT)...

The issue is that TZ-UK is NOT primarily a sales site, but far too many people use it as that.

If all you want to do is browse for watches for sale there are plenty of other sites.

Personally, I'd have allowed non members / low post count members to still view, but not be able to post in the SC or WTB sections, or send PM's or emails to sellers. The site owner would have done that (we've exchange messages), but apparently the board software is not that flexible.

You should see (or rather you shouldn't actually) the amount of utter ste being posted at the moment by 100's of newbies racing to 50 just so they can view the SC.

Stuart have you tried asking for a new password?

Mine has been reset numerous times over the last few months, especially if I haven't been on for a while.

That's how it was up until a few days ago, up to a point. I could read but not post, so if I was interested in an item I'd just PM the seller. Now I can't read at all.

The board software is more than capable as it was what it was doing before changing to no views at all for minus 50 post members and I do something very similar on a board I setup.

It is a bit harsh not being able to see the sales corner unless you have 50 posts but I can see Eddie's view. I tend to be a lurker rather than a poster (look at my post count vs time registered here!). My solution was simple - I buggered off to other watch sites, plenty more out there.......

Yep, tried that. My account has been deleted. In my more paranoid moments I wonder if he pops in here, sees that people sometimes grumble about the place, and has decided to do so on that basis. I've genuinely raised my head far enough above the parapet over there to come to anyone's attention. Strictly a lurker...

Which 'watches for sale' sites do you lot use then? I only really browsed TZ-UK and can't be arsed posting loads of inane st to get to 50 posts - I do enough of that on here.

That was my first thought actually.

I think it's a bit like that on TZ. , That's why there's so much sycophantic arse kissing and fawning over his dodgy copywatches.

It's fair enough acting like a berk when it's your website and is run just for your own pleasure but he's also a UK main dealer for some smaller brands.

I'd be surprised, I joined a couple of years ago. But as a dealer I'm prohibited from tendering items for sale or placing 'WTB' posts. To be honest I find it a little too chummy, as most postings for sale are followed by pointless posts confirming what a great watch/deal it is, or how they would buy it but can't afford it. A lot of fodder and waffle.

My 2 cents....

Oh quite, I can't stand all of that back slapping nonsense which goes on. Still some lovely pieces for sale on there though, and it is a good way of killing 30 minutes a day.

Maybe we'll just have to make the PH watches for sale bigger and better. ideaevil

Its a bit of a chicken/egg situation over there with regards to sales corner. I see his point about not wanting it to turn into a sales site, but if you look at the number of posts in each forum, sales corner is the second most popular (IIRC) and must attract people to the site who then contribute more in other areas. I'd be pretty nervous of binning it completely if it was my site - which he apparently has threatened.

http://www.thewatchforum.co.uk/ then.

TBH I don't know why he doesn't give others moderator privileges. Obviously, I'm not sensible enough for such duties but there must be other members out there.

Bit of a shame, I signed up as I enjoyed window shopping in the sales forum and getting ideas for new watches and a feel for prices.

At that point I was all geared up for a big purchase, and was heading to a U1.

I had a change of heart and realised I could have a drawer full of affordables for the same price. I then found Watchuseek, but it's so bloody American in the affordables bit. They worship at the shrine of Alpha USA who knock out some of the most god awful tat.

I started replying banal comments on TZ last night to up my post count, but soon realised that's not cricket.

Elite Deal Seeker is excellent as a meta-tool for finding watches for sale.

Because then he wouldn't have absolute, final control.

I agree to some extent, but it's not that different on most of the model specific car websites I use. If someone puts a car up for sale there is usually a page full of, "nice car mate, can't believe you're selling" type posts.
