I've got between £500 and £750 to spend in the next 8 months or so on a decent watch. I'm perfectly happy to go for a pre-owned item, but I know a couple of the 'budget' TAG Heuer examples come in within budget new.

I'm not a gold fan, something more subtle and with more class is my preferred style.

I am new to the world of watches, currently the most expensive one I own is a £100 example (a gift from my O/H) that rarely gets worn.

Ideally? I've love a Breitling Bentley 6.75 but at £3,500-odd for a 2nd hand example i'll pass on them for now.....

I've been looking for another Sinn, but this seems to be about right

Have a look at Stowa if you haven't already - www.stowa.de

I bought a Marine Original handwind a few months ago and couldn't be happier with it. Simple, classic styling and excellent build quality.

The Sinn is a very nice watch - very modern but not overly showy. Not sure on the rubber strap though.

The Showa Marine series are very elegant - I like them very much.

Food for thought..... scratchchin

Both offer fairly good vfm and are more off the beaten track than most, Stowa are nicely made, Sinn are technologicaly advanced - have a wee read up on both and I'm sure you'll find one or three in either that may be interesting.

What sort of style are you after? I'm currently looking at this Longines Hydroquest at around £650: http://www.goldsmiths.co.uk/product.asp?cid=1&...
Although the one I want has the blue dial, and a slightly different bezel.

I'm not looking for any thing in particular style-wise, it just has to be fairly classy and not too ostentatious. The Longines or TAG F1 series watches are about as 'bold' as I would go. I'm certainly not interested in anything gold, and definitely not anything by Rolex - for me the Rolex is ruined by image. One poster on another forum I use absolutely has to have his left wrist in view whenever he is pointing something out in a photograph, just to make the point that he owns a Rolex.

The Showa is the other end of the scale for me, very subtle. Ideally, i'd have something like the Showa and a more modern watch like the Longines for different days, but that won't happen for a year or two yet.

What do people think of Doxa?
