I have a circa 70's Omega for which the crown is missing and probably could use a service. Other than Omega are there some good watch repairers I could use to get it working again. I am in London but don't mind posting it out to get it fixed.

thanks

I have used Swiss Time Services, very good but expensive. Omega experts, Omega use them as their official UK service centre.

I know a lot of people say good things about Ryte Time in Leicester.

I have never used Martins but their website looks good.

I would give Ryte Time a call or an email to discuss your watch if I were you. Contact details are on their site.

Just got my SMP back from www.watchdoctors.co.uk

Very quick turnaround and very reasonable costs - £81 for a full service, reseal and pressure testing. Although mine is a modern watch but it was the best quote I got when looking a few weeks ago

Surely there must be a local who can get it going for you again more cheaply? I stumbled across a little gem in my hometown - quoted me £65 for a full service on my vintage Omega Seamaster. All Omega parts and he's fully qualified etc. although he does specialise in Japanese movements.

Ryte Time quote £55 for an Omega service and they have a very good reputation in the watch collecting community.

I took my father's old watch to a local watchmaker before I learnt that reputation is important and they did a very poor job.

BTW, not connected to Ryte Time at all and Swiss Time Services are the best if money is no object, actually that's not true, it is possible to send a watch directly to Omega themselves in Bienne, if you are loaded.

Thanks for all the comments.

Ryte time are the cheapest - around £60.

Found a chappy on ebay who quotes £35 for a service - which seems to be very cheap, anyone know of him at all

The only place in London I can find is a shop on Clerkenwell Road, who I need to call in about an hour.

cheers

Just an update - found someone called Chris Heal on the interweb and will be using him for the service of my watch.

Let's hope it all goes ok. The reason for going to him, is that he seemed knowledgable on the phone and if I have to go there is not that far away from me.

Will post again once I get my watch back!

Im going to advise you to avoid this person. I cant substantiate my advice, but I would not send any of my Omegas there under any circumstances.

I would recommend Time Repairs in Bolton, in addition to the other suggestions.
