Exporting a watch to the US.

I need to export a personal watch sold to a chap in the US.
The main problem is finding a carrier able to provide cover to the full value at £4.5k.
FedEx will handle, but only provide cover to $1000.
Any help/advice would be much appreciated.

Good luck, my friend wanted to ship his Rolex from the UK to the UAE - and couldn't find a carrier that would do it.

You might consider "counter to counter" services where you insure an item, deliver to the freight folks @ the airline to the destination, and then the customer collects on his end.

I've done that for PC's, Sky Dishes and other stuff years ago. Far safer than Royal Dismail....

I had this problem last year and this was the solution.
I had a £20k watch shipped and completely insured from the UK to France for £250. The key is to look for a fine art freight forwarder, I think mine was called forship or something like that. I had no luck with mail or courier services at all, max insure £1k.

If you think about it, there are priceless works of art being transported all over the world that mcust be insured. I will try and find the exact company but it was all easy and a good service, I didnt think it was too expensive either for the risk involved.

Have solved the problem by using a shipping agent/broker to insure, and DHL to ship as an already covered item.
Couriers have a different attitude to "Joe public" compared to services they offer to regular users.
