I've always been aware of the letters at the start of the serial numbers, and I understand these relate to the time period in which the watch was manufactured.

I guess my query is about the impact the serial letter has on a watches value or desirability? Or is the most important factor the year it was made, even if two serial letters were made in that year?

I'm trying to value a Seadweller and for the first time I thought I'd question the impact the serial letter may, or may not, have.

Thanks in advance for educating me!

Ross here's a link to a chart showing the correlation between Rolex serial numbers and the assigned year of production..

I'm not sure that the serial number will have an impact on the value of a used Rolex watch? Originality, condition and the inclusion of associated paperwork will form the greater value variance for a given model.

Give me a call if you'd like any help....

I think some people are demanding/expecting a premium for their 'M' serial last-of-the-line 16600 Seadwellers.

edit to add: I've just read 'V' serial were available which I guess buggers up the M serial brigade.

Just teasing, there's probably about 1.10263763% difference in value between an M and a V series SD. I bought a couple last year, one for my sons' 18th (14 years to go...) and one for me maybe....It's probably my favourite modern Rolex Professional series piece.

It's just sour grapes on my part because my SD is 'Z' registered. I did buy it brand new from a Rolex AD just before they discontinued it for 3 grand however so I'm still happy. smile
