Hi

My daily beater, a SS, Zenith Daytona has been on my wrist for 5 years.

At what point should I get the poor fellow serviced? There are a couple of scratches on the bezel, which I would not object to being removed, along with whatever goes on with a service.

Should I get the scratches polished out?

Where should I get a service? How much should I expect and how long without my watch *sob*?

Based in West London.

Many thanks

Rolex recommend a service every five years. I would have it serviced by Rolex, St James Square in the west end. Should cost around £450 and it will come back looking like new as the polishing of the bezel, case and strap are all part of the service. I believe you will be without the watch for 4-6 weeks. It's the only place my Daytona will go to have a service. Their number is 020 7024 7300.

If there are parts of the case you don't want polished, make sure you tell them. I had my Explorer II serviced a few years back and they polished the brushed steel effect bezel. It looked absolutely awful. Plus they took the green holographic sticker off the back without asking. Eventually Rolex admitted that they had cocked up, and replaced the bezel FOC. It just didn't cross my mind that anyone would be daft enough to polish something that wasn't polished to start with. Anyway. Be aware.
