Took my ten year old son for a wander through the Argyle Arcade in Glasgow today. The Argyle Arcade is the watch/jewellery hub in Glasgow. We started at one side and worked our way round seeing who had the most expensive watch. Was great fun, starting off with watches in the hundreds, then thousands then tens of thousands, until we came across a Patek Phillipe, yours Sir for £154,840yikes The wee fella was totally gobsmacked! As was I as I didn't think it was all that!
Also I'm 40 next year and was thinking of getting the Wife to buy me a nice watch to commemerate it, possibly an Omega. Now though, and as much as I love items like the above being in existence, I think I'm just gonna get a Mondaine and a shed of the week and admire the beauty from the other side of the glass(till I win the lottery!)

So, whats the most expensive watch you've ever seen?

When I was in Sweden, i tried on a concept watch with a retail of +£250000! The jewellers locked the door and instructed us not to mention that we had even seen it! Happily i cannot remember what the watch was, but what i can say is that it was massive and really heavy. Beautifully made with an incredible tourbillion movement etc

I was in the Patek gallery in Tiffany's on 5th Avenue NY on Friday. Amongst other displays they have a case with just 3 complications in it - the cheapest was $5m.

Saw a Gruebel Forsey Double Secret (I think) in London once. It didn't have a price, but that's OK.

A few years ago a very nice man in Marcus let me try on an AP Royal Oak Grande Complication that they were selling for about £450k: Platinum with a blued bezel and blue sharkskin strap.

Very, very nice...

Saw a Rolex in Bucherer in Interlaken, you go down into a vault past men with guns, it was a gold Oyster covered in diamonds and ruby's, 8 million quid, it was the most hideous watch I've ever seen in my life.

http://www.laingsglasgow.com/ They have two stores in the arcade, it's the second store if you enter from Buchanan St entrance.

Surely that is just a speculative price?!

Indeed, he's wishing I think. It is a rare watch, but others on ebay are going for about a quarter of what he's asking, which is still a lot for a Seiko, albeit a very nice Seiko!
