Not really a watch person myself (other than to tell the time) but this thread got me thinking about a pocket watch I have in my bedside cabinet.

The watch was given to my dad by his father in law to be(who had quite a collection I believe). We think he picked this one out because it is engraved "Dennison", which was his son in law to be(and my) surname.

I know nothing about the watch, but it was given to him in the late 60's. I wound it up for the first time in 20 years tonight and it ticks away and seems to keep good time.

The face of the watch (movement?) says swiss made but there are no other markings. Opening the back of the watch it is stamped "STAR" and "DENNISON Trade Mark", 228048.

I reckon I could wedge a blade under this case to open up the movement proper.... but not sure if I dare (I might have done this when I was 10, can't remember properly!)

Given that it is stamped rather than engraved and the number is high I'm guessing this is a volume produced watch?

Looking on wikipedia Dennison is probably the case maker.

Anyway, now I've found it I'm interested in finding out more - especially if there is a family link.

Anyone know anything about these watches?

Certainly wouldn't sell it (probably worth little anyway), but should I get it serviced, cleaned up etc?
