scratched watch face
Discussion
Damn,
i have only had my Sinn 556 for a few months, and somehow, on a lazy Sunday, the face gets a 7mm scratch on it.
(at the moment, i am blaming an accidental brush with the gf's ring...)
does anyone have an idea if this is a replacement job, or are watch faces easy to polish up to "good as new"?
cheers for the comments!

Does that model have an AR coating on the crystal ? If so, then your only option is to remove all the AR coating, assuming it is only the coating that has been scratched.
The crystal itself is bound to be sapphire, so polywatch etc will not work if the crystal itself has been scratched.

Not all Sinns have sapphire crystals - my 356 II has an acrylic crystal and suffered a nasty gash after a chance brush with a painted brick. Easily polished out with Polywatch and a jeweller's bench polisher (would have taken a lot longer by hand).
If it's a sapphire crystal then you'll only scratch it with diamond or boron nitride or some space-age stuff, but damage to the AR coating on the *outside* of sapphire is a pain in the arse and easy to do.
First find out whether it's acrylic or not. If it is, any local jeweller will polish it perfectly for a tenner (or you can try yourself with Polywatch or a decently abrasive toothpaste).
AR is more of a problem, but replacing the entire crystal should only cost £100 or so (depending on labour charges, you may be able to do it yourself with the right tools). I've found crystal replacement to be a *difficult* job to do though as an amateur, even with the correct tools, so you probably want an expert to do it for you

From the Sinn website : Sapphire Crystal it is..
