Servicing/Cleaning
Discussion
Hi all,
I've owned my Omega Planet Ocean for nearly 2 years, it's very rarely off my wrist (Unless I'm sleeping or Working) and it's begining to look a bit dirty. It has also gained a couple of minor scratches on the case/bracelet.
I'm thinking about sending it back to Omega to have a general service and clean up. Now my question is do I go direct or through Goldsmiths where I bought it from? As it's the Quantum of Solice Edition I don't really want it getting lost or damaged in transport so am thinking about getting it doen through Goldsmiths.
What are everyones thoughts? And any ideas of the cost?
Cheers
Jamie

The official Omega UK service firm is here:

I have a JB Seamaster, 13 years old. Had it's second ever service at Swiss Time Services last year. Cost £180, which is a price fixed by Omega unfortunately. Service was tthe complete job. I took the watch there and received it back in the post a week later, far quicker than via a high street shop, and about a third cheaper too I Gather.
They also deal with other brands, much cheaper too.
I suggest you give then a call to find out the cost of what you want to have done, timescale etc.

OP, your Planet Ocean won't need a service (assuming it's still keeping good time) for a good long while yet. One of the design goals of the Co-axial movement was to increase service intervals; originally, Omega said "ten years" but that's been since scaled back to "about five".
If you do send it off to Omega, expect a bill of not less than £300, and a wait that could run into months.

Why do you want to get a 2008 SD serviced? It should be OK for around 5 years. Either way, the only real choice is to take it to a Rolex AD and give it to them. Prepare for a hefty bill and wait (probably around £300 and 3 months wait) but when it comes back it will be as new, truly as though it just came out of the window. Ive tried other "reliable Rolex servicing" and they have all be disappointing and its false economy.
I had my GMT II Master serviced last year- I live in Switzerland so it was sent by the dealer to Geneva and serviced there. Ended up costing me about 700 CHF (400 quid) which I thought was a bit pricey. And I was really unimpressed with the "polishing" of the strap- it looked worse (rougher) than before the service- it looked like it had been polished with an angle grinder! I'm sure that some specialist watch repairers could have done a better job...
