I really like the look of this watch after seeing one in a advertisement:

Chopard Mille Miglia GT XL Chrono Speed Black:

Apparently these are no longer in production but were priced around £5k or so. What can I find similar looking, similar price range, similar (or better) quality? I do not mind buying used.

Where does Chopard sit in the watch heirarchy?

I'd say that they've got some racing heritage, but for the money, if you're thinking about "watch heirarchy," I've got two words for you. Fashion watch.

I think these were all limited to 1000 units worldwide. You can still buy the split second version but that is 9k. Some watches such as the speed black are only available at Chopard boutiques so maybe worth calling the one on New Bond St. Very helpful, they sourced a GMT speed black for me recently when I had similar trouble, the other boutiques such as Selfridges or Harrods are franchises so further down the priority list for special editions.

I can't agree either. Chopard are a true manufacture, making some really interesting movements. However, they do also use ETA base movements (including in the MM). Been around a while too.

They do also make non-watch jewellery which probably accounts for the impression.

Saw one of these the other week for sale in a jewellers in Bluewater (Kent), brand new at £4250. Lord knows where they got it from as I thought these were sold out early in 2010, and only available through chopard boutiques.

Or is there a Speed Black II? which wouldn't surprise me...
