The OH has said she would buy me a watch, budget £500. Have been looking at the vintage omegas on Austin Kaye's site but wondered if I was missing something?

Will be for everyday wear and would prefer a metal bracelet, not really interested in Seiko etc.

Any ideas?

Last year's Oris williams F1: http://www.precisiontime.co.uk/oris-williams-f1-c-...

I've just bought the elatest Oris Divers watch (I paid £755) and the build quality is excellent.

Buying from Austin Kaye, I think you would be fine. Is it a vintage watch you're after??

For the budget, there is a wealth of choice new, used and vintage - all depends on what you want.

A little bit more info would be useful - dress watch?? weekend watch?? Quartz, Auto or handwound?? etc etc

Doesn't have to be vintage but wanted something with a bit of pedigree As I said, daily wear so probably not a dress watch.

How about one of these -

Steinhart Ocean 1 Vintage Red - 320 Euros plus postage from www.steinhart-watches.de

Or perhaps Ocean 1 GMT - 390 Euros

Or perhaps a Sinn 556 - www.chronomaster.co.uk

or maybe a Speedbird III www.timefactors.com

Just a few that I have owned or currently have in my collection - all within your budget brand new. Also worth a look is the Glycine Combat range - take a look at www.jurawatches.co.uk.

I am sure that others will be along with other suggestions, but food for thought from me. Let us know how you get on.

Sounds interesting.

I'm in a similar boat (no pun intended), any examples/links?

Well i bought mine on ebay which can be risky. But if you have a reasnable understanding of watches and know what you are looking at, you can get a good deal. I would only use ebay though by waiting for a few weeks for a watch to come up for sale that is near enough that you can meet the seller in person and check the watch out and if there is a receipt with the watch try and contact the jewellers and authenticate the puchase of the watch. This is what i did and i got this 2006 qaurtz seamaster in perfect condition with the box and all papers for just over your budget, i hope this was of help to you.
