For some reason I have newly identified a need to wear a watch, which I haven't done for many a year. I'm a firm believer in practicality - I don't want one with a minging rubber strap that'll leave the worlds supply of sweat beneath, I dont want a huge loud chunky thing, I don't want a casio 3.99 digital and I don't want something that'll smash or scratch the moment I look at it the wrong way - not that it would be subjected to particularly harsh usage.

What I would like is something like (in appearance) this -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mens-Daich-Military-24H-Date...

That said, I have my doubts about the amount of longevity £0.99 plus postage buys. Plus I don't want to wait a month for delivery.

So I went googling for something similar that still fits the bill and found this which seems well regarded - https://www.silvermans.co.uk/ProductDetails/tabid/...

Now, as a complete layman why does that cost £90, seems an awful lot to me. Lastly, is there a similar option for less (I was thinking £30-40).

Try this guy -

Have bought a couple of watches from him in the last few months and have had excellent service. There should be something in there to suit.

Try a Timex Expedition with a rubber strap

looks passably smart, but happy to live in an engine bay or underwater.

Reasonably priced and reliable? Seiko all the way. So many options in style, you'll find something that you like for sure.

Got a Seiko 5 Automatic for my birthday from here, I love it. I was thinking of buying a Rolex but I got a better looking watch with a 90% discount.

Hi, probably a foolish question but the seiko 5 arrived today, and after being briefly confused by the whole spanish / english days thing, it found its way on to my wrist, but after a couple of hours it's stopped.. I'm not doing anything particularly active at the moment, just sat at desk / typing - is this not enough to keep it going?

Try holding it by the clasp with the dial facing downwards, then swing it for about 30 seconds within 5 inch arc. (I assume it is non-winding.)

Couldn't resist that so just ordered and paid for.
That's watch number two (and counting)...
Now this second watch i justified as one to take the some of the day to day use from my Hamilton. How do I justify the third watch? scratchchin

I started my collection in October after wearing the same Seiko day, in day out for 4 and a bit years. It's now at 11 watches... eek

I'm going to maybe trim a few out of mine but I have 4 or 5 regular daily-wearers, a few others I wear less regularly and a few others that are more for going out, gold dress watch and the like.
Not sure yet though... I already have a never-ending list of stuff I want.

SWMBO. To be fair to her though she did buy me the Hamilton for my 30th and then said i should get another so it didn't get too much wear. She doesn't know what she's started though.
