Which Rolex? Sub no-date or Sea Dweller?
Discussion
A watch I plan on buying before the end of the year is a Rolex Sub no-date, I wasn’t keen on them until recently but the more I’ve read about them the more I like them. I love the classic no-date looks.
However I’m beginning to consider a Sea Dweller instead of the Sub no-date. The date would be useful and I’m really not a fan of the Sub date with it’s cyclops. One thing that puts me off the Sea Dweller is the size. According to this site the Sub is 12.3mm thick and the Sea Dweller is 14.8mm thick. I have small wrists and I’m worried the Sea Dweller will look too big.
I’m currently wearing a Seiko 007J which is 12.7mm thick , and I used to have a Monster which is 14mm thick (dimensions taken from reviews here and here). I ended up selling the Monster as it was a bit too chunky for me. I know numbers don’t tell the whole story and the obvious solution is to try on the Sea Dweller and go from there, but I haven’t been able to find one.
Has anyone here got a Sea Dweller and is able to let me know how it compares to either a Seiko 007 or Monster? Also, is there a difference in quality between the Sub and Sea Dweller?
Finally what sort of discount should I expect on a brand new Sub? (As a guide - my purchase is still a few months away at the soonest). I’ve looked at Sea Dweller prices which look to be over £3500 on Blowers which I imagine to be a few hundred more than a brand new Sub no-date?
All advice appreciated! Thanks.

Depends if the old style no-date is being continued or not with the intoroduction of the new chunkier style Sub.Generally, you'd be hardpressed to get any discount from a Rolex AD. If the old style no-date is now discontinued as well it's a case of finding one in a dealer anyway, let alone expecting a discount. Plenty missed out on a new Sea-Dweller for the same reasons after it was discountinued. A new no-date Sub is aout £3.4k from an AD IIRC. Blowers have a new unworn no-date for about £3k IIRC. Aside from the extra cost, I wouldn't have a SD because of my slim wrists....it's too thick for me.
Did you get my message?

ND-Sub is more comfortable than the SD in day-to-day wear. If you have small wrists, the ND-Sub is the way to go.
The SD sits higher because of the backing which pushes the case up. But if you have medium/large wrists, the SD is the bolder/stronger watch.
In terms of engineering, the SD is probably the most over engineered tool watch made.
fwiw, the SD was my choice between ND-Sub and SD but then I have med/lg wrists.
Thanks for your replies. Aeropilot, combination of me not checking my email very often and it sitting in my spam folder meant I hadn't seen your email but I've replied now.
It's a good point about Rolex possibly discontinuing the no-date Sub but unfortunately I'm not in a position to buy one right away, so if they do discontinue it and there's no brand new ones about in a few months I'll just have to go second hand.
That picture of the Sea Dweller and Monster side by side makes the Rolex look a bit smaller and sleeker than the Monster which is good for me, but in true Father Ted style I can't work out if it's really smaller or just further away.

I haven't got an SD (although I would like one very much) but I do have a Monster, and the bezel makes it ride quite high on the wrist. The search function is your friend

Rolex aren't discontinuing the non date Sub, it will run alongside the new style Subs unchanged which is good thing in my opinion. I'm not a huge fan of the new style case, I much prefer the classic look of the non date. The Sea Dweller has been replaced by the Deep Sea which I think is a really nice looking watch although it helps if you have large wrists.
