Buying watches in Hong Kong
Discussion
I bought a Seamaster Pro Chrono over there for around 1100 quid (brand new, unopened etc) 6yrs ago. I had a (trusted!) local take me to the right place to buy and also did much of the negotiating (in Cantonese). I can't recall the name of the place but am 99% certain it was in Causeway Bay.
You can usually tell the shadier places very easily, so if in doubt, walk away. If you don't know anyone there, hotel concierges (if you're staying somewhere decent) will help with places to look at.
You need to know what you're buying very thoroughly. Do some research before you go
Finally, not sure how the exchange rate is at the moment, but the pound has taken a battering against most currencies since I bought, so the savings may not be so great...

I live in HK.
What were you after? make, price range etc.?
I think most watches are a bit cheaper here - no VAT for starters.
My last decent new watch was a Rolex GMT ~ 10 years ago. The 'standard' discount off rolex was up to 17 % off the oysters and ~ 13% off the sports models( GMT, submariner etc.) . look at second hand prices to guage how much discount you can haggle - e.g. For Tag Heuer , I would expect 30 % off listed prices ( unless limited editions.)
Availability - vast, Milguass, green submariners, SS daytonas are in shop windows - no waiting lists here.
My last purchases were Seiko orange monster and SKX007 ~ 100 pounds.
Where - Buy from official shops only. - See watch brands websites.
Happy hunting.
