Best place camera and digi watch, KL or Hong Kong ?
Discussion
I am traveling round Malaysia at the mo and due to Thailand kicking off decided to fly to Honkers to see some friends, rather than the planned land crossing round through and down to Vietnam
I am looking to get a Casio Pathfinder Sea watch and a Canon G9 camera, price wise would I be better looking in KL or HK ? will be in KL in a few days then to HK for a week or so, then won;t be back to KL for another 5 months when I am returning to blighty.
I am thinking HK is going to be better but obviously don;t want to get out there and find the place I just left was miles cheaper.
Any advise, tips or recommendations on particular shops ? haggling won't be a problem ( work in the antiques trade ), but would like to chuck some business to someone who has sorted out a PH'er before or who maybe be a PH'er.

Last time I was there I found cameras were actually more expensive and there was less choice than I imagined.
I was trying to get the latest Nikon compact which I hoped would be released ahead of the UK, but it wasn't and the price was really not that attractive. Memory cards were also much more expensive than here and there's always the nagging doubt that if you do find a bargain, they are fake or faulty goods which come out of the back of a Chinese factory and sold as new. No comeback if you get back to the UK and it doesn't work...
At the very least, I suggest you do some Googling using the HK version of Google so you can get an idea of costs for the model you want.

I'd echo the above, if you want a kosher camera in HK, ie. with an international warranty, the prices will be the same as the UK, if not more (there is very little online shopping in HK so that and high-rent for physical stores makes the prices high).
Grey imports are widely available, but have the obvious warranty issues. I can't really give an idea on prices though im afraid (someone will come along in a minute that can though im sure).

Lots of fantastic horological boutiques at the airport in HK - I spent a happy few hours wandering round a short time ago. But, as others have said they aren't any cheaper. Visited Switzerland briefly a few months ago and it was much the same unfortuately. Still, a useful opportunity to get some wrist time with a lot of watches in one place.

I just bought a Canon G11 in Hong Kong. Off the top of my head I paid about 20% less than prices I could see on Amazon.co.uk, and as a bonus was given a 8mg card, spare battery, cheap case and a pair of sports socks (size medium) as part of the deal.

PS Buy from one of the big chains like Fortress, not one of the small independents you'll see around

The best place in KL to buy digital cameras (or any tech really) is the Plaza Low Yat:
http://www.plazalowyat.com
You could spend a whole day wandering round that place looking for a bargain
