Hi, it's my birthday soon and the mrs has very kindly offered to buy me a watch for around the £500 mark. The only watch I have seen so far is a Tag f1 for £625. If anyone has any suggestions that would be great as I know nothing about watches!

Thanks
Chris

Depends what you want, sports, dress, diver, auto, handwind.......

For around that price I would be looking at Oris, Glycine, Stowa rather than the defacto Tags. Second hand however opens up your choices considerably and £500 can get you some very nice pieces.

I'm sure others will have further recommendations for you too..... Be warned, your first 'decent' watch will NOT be your last and it is a slippery slope yes

Agreed! yesbiggrin

It's not a question of need - just watch lust! I'm coveting a Breitling at the moment despite owning some lovely watches.

Hi thanks for your suggestions, I haven't heard of any of those brands before but I'll get looking now. I'd be interested in getting a second hand watch, but worried about be ripped off on ebay.

Pub talk has led me to believe that watches with big numbers on are for youngsters?!

This is one of the Tag watches I like the look of, but I have heard Tag aren't quite as unique as other brands?

As I said before I know nothing about watches so all help is appreciated.

Thanks

The TAG F1 is a fine watch, but it doesn't half scuff easily. You might not mind this.

It's also surprisingly small.

Just an idea - have you thought of trying the watch shop at Bicester Retail Village? Went in there a couple of years ago, they had quite a few nice Tag's for approx 30-40% off r.r.p.
