The irony is that they're supposed to be "toy" versions of expensive watch brands as a kind of rebellion against Western values, yet as cheap, colourful, plastic watches go, they're fking expensive. You can get similarly styled watches for a tenth of the price.

haha true but as they're supposedly cheap watches, you shouldn't be able to find cheap versions of them!

But they're not worn by wannabes. That's the whole point. Or am I missing something? I thought celebs wore them as a rebellious statement.

They do seem to be quite expensive. I've just bought my wife the 'sekonda summertime cloud'as a bit of fun for the summer and for under £30 more realistic than the Channel J12 (which I will get her one day)
The Toy Watches version is just under £200 for what seems almost identical to the Sekonda

Yes, celebs wear them which is trite and cheap. Then wannabes wear them to be cool, like the celebrities.

That's how I see it anyway.
Either: Overpriced plastic st. The watch. Not the wearer. Although... wink

Lets say there this Celeb called Steve McQueen who wears a watch, would anyone who wears that watch be a pleb/wannabe?

What if the watch is worn by a fictional spy....

Well done on totally missing the point. The watches you're referring too aren't plastic tat akin to junk found in the reduced section of Argos.

At want prices point do you stop being a pleb and become discerning when you buy a watch that was made popular by a celeb.

As for the price point, are you trying to say that all those watches with ETA movements are value? Poor value for money is rife in the watch industry.

Some of these Toy Watches are for sale at well over £1000!!!!!
I kid you not; I saw some of these in Selfridges.

At up to £50 they are a reasonable fashionable and disposable jewellery item, dress jewellery has it’s place and a lot of women like all that, but when they are running in to the hundreds and thousand pound plus bracket then…jeez, you’d have to be crackers to buy a watch that looks like it came from a cracker!

First bit re celebs, as I said, the wore them to rebel so if you say they're trite and being cheap, you're missing the point if I'm right about their point. The second point, I agree.
