NON-DATE SUB SCOC RANDOM SERIALS.
Discussion
New to this part of PH, and by no means an expert on watches.
Ive always hankered after a non date submariner. Something about the no frills workmanlike nature of the watch. Was looking at one in Carr Diamonds window a while ago, and Mrs JC kindly offered to get me one. After picking myself off the floor i accepted her offer..
Anyways.. A few enquiries later and it seems they're flying off the shelves everywhere. Something to do with the model being replaced by the ceramic bezel version.
Ive found one that carries the SCOC label, and has random serial numbers. What is the significance of a random serial number? Is this some kind of run out model feature that has collectors frothing at the mouth?
Also is the SCOC label more desirable than one without? Initially i thought an old used beater would do, then i'd get it serviced, but am starting to come around to a brand new one.
Ebay has brought up a few around the 3k mark. Kind of dubious about using ebay for a 3k watch.
Any dealers on here who could answer my questions, and find me one?
Or anyone you guys could suggest?
I realise its only a cheap mass produced watch when compared to a Patek or the like, but still appreciate a bit of inside info from those more knowledgeable on the subject than myself.

From what I've read, Rolex have phased out the prefix letter serial numbers from which you could tell age, and replaced them with a random serial number. That should be the latest model then.
Just back from the 'States, plenty of D & ND old subs there, but Torneau wanted $15k for a 2004 SS Daytona.

Not quite. The older design date-Sub (16610) has been flying off the shelves with the imminent arrival into the dealers of the new ugly supersize Subs.Rolex are continuing to make the old style no-date Sub for a while longer yet, so this hasn't been discontinued.

As has been said, some time late last year/early this year Rolex introduced a non-datable randon number system, so this just proves it was a recent production made watch.Jollyclub said:

Plenty of good dealers around to buy good used from, rather than the Bay of Evil.Dom H on here for one, as well as Blowers etc.
