Posting rules about a dodgy company???
Discussion
I rarely post on PH, but am aware of posting rules about negative comments on companies or individuals
But....if say I found out about a website that sells watches in the UK that has gone out of business leaving lots of customers out of pocket, and has set up a new company and website, and that this is not the first time this has happened, what am I allowed to say?
Can I name the old company and the new one, in order to allow PH'ers to make a decision to do some Google research? - I won't say anything defamatory - just 'suggest' that potential customers of company 'X' try Googling company 'Y'
One of my friends has been caught out whilst purchasing a watch for his wife's 40th, and tracked down the owners new company
It might all be common knowledge to many on here, but maybe not
Shame to let these people keep taking decent folk to the cleaners....

Naming and shaming is against the site rules so you can't really do that but indirect / obtuse reference to the party often slips past the censors. The Porsche forum seem to get away with references to a certain North London independent dealer, for example.

ahhh.....thank you
well, onto a completely different topic....
a friend had an experience with a 'pizza' company recently
'The Branded Pizza Company' were not at all good at delivering their pizzas even though people had paid for them
If you were to try ordering pizzas from 'DialaPizza' now, you might find it was the same chef taking your order

Naming and shaming is only a problem (legally-speaking) if someone accuses another of something dodgy. Legally, it's fine to state facts and it's OK to state your opinion, for example: "I paid for a watch from CompanyX a year ago and have never received it and have never received a reply to my many emails" would be OK (if it were demonstrably true). Similarly, saying "I wouldn't order another watch from CompanyX" is also legally allowable.
What one shouldn't say is something like, "The b
ds at CompanyX stole my f
king money and shut down the company to avoid their creditors, the
s" because you're accusing them of dishonesty and they could claim that you defamed them.
Whether PH's rules on naming/shaming are purely based on the legal situation though, I'm not sure.

They are not. The PH N&S rules are different - and for a reason. Full details here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...And that said - there was a thread running over the past few days which backs up and supports this policy perfectly. Two sides to every story and all that

But that all said, you can name the 'old' retailer. Nothing wrong with that
The question is the public factual evidence to support the claim that the 'new' retailer is the 'old one.Gassing Station | Watches | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
