My first "proper" watch - nothing special but im hooked!
Discussion
Finally got my first "proper" watch (well proper to me, me being a complete n00b when it comes to watches). Im aware its a fashion make and that POLICE probably (or definately?) dont make the internals but just label it, but its a step in the right direction for me, and I really like the style!
First off, I'm now hooked as I am quite obsessed with the watch, and think that in time I will start to collect, as they are really are awesome
Second heres a picture:

Thirdly, I thought I got quite a good deal at £57 thanks to MSE email update
And forthly, how would one describe the style of watch I've got? As I fancy researching other watches of a similar style as I reckon my next purchase will be in the region of £300 - £400 maybe around xmas time
Cheers!

Nice looking watch for the money, shame the snap is out of focus as the detail is a little lost! It's definately a 'fashion' brand, I'd actually be surprised if they make *any* part used in their watches and would guess that they'd have a hand (pardon the pun..) in the design but would then get a third party to physically get it together. Police could never be compared in the same light as many others but then I guess you already know that, what's important is that you yourself enjoy it
By the way, I own a Police watch, a retangular retro styled model, and even though I've recently bought what some would describe as more 'premium' (but not exactly expensive) watches I still enjoy wearing it!

I felt the same getting a Diesel watch several years ago. Sadly, the battery dying and strap falling apart a few months ago resulted in me wandering into this forum to look for ONE replacement.
I now have a Seiko 5, a Nautica, an Aeromatic (Werners), a Christopher Ward, and a G-Shock.
Think I've caught the bug...!

Its a bit of a mixture of styles really.
Its a chronograph style with almost a kind of grand complication effect going on.
A good moving up point from here would be to find something by Longines or Oris, who have some nice chronograph and complication style watches but at fairly reasonable prices (upto about £1500 I guess)Omega would be a good call as would Tag Heuer.
Unfortunately your taste could lead you down a very expensive avenue as "real" grand complications are hideously expensive primarily becasue of the engineering but also because they're normally made of precious metals as well.
All IMHO of course.

I was the same! Diesel watch that was £100 or something. I felt pretty pleased with it at the time. Now it's relagated to the "going out so don't worry if it gets damaged" list. My strap also fell apart and its missing pixels on the screen. I now have a Seiko 5, a Nautica, an Aeromatic (Werners), a Christopher Ward, and a G-Shock.

Now I have a Seiko Flightmaster chrono, a Seiko Monster, a Christopher Ward C40 Speedhawk, an old swiss mechanical passed down from my grandfather and I'm saving for an Omega Moonwatch.
It's addictive this watch malarky..
Local timefactors are discounting G-Shocks at the moment

Thanks for the suggestions, will have a browse
Heres another pciture with abit more clarity:

It took me a while to find a design I liked, I neevr did like thos with small numbers around the edge or overlly simple designs, this just seems spot on!
(and yes the date is wrong, and yes it has been changed :P )

The top and bottom dials are called 'retrograde' dials, search these if that's your bag.
I'd go for something completely different for your next watch though.
The MX5 of watches, the Seiko Monster.

If that's a bit steep, don't wait until Christmas. I guess the Police one you have now is a quartz, ie, battery powered ?
You can get a perfectly acceptable Seiko mechanical watch for sub 50 quid. (there's a thread full of it on here somewhere)

It's the slippery slope...
When young I had the usual Casio and Timex sort of thing, going from digital to quartz when I left school. Then for my 21st my sister bought me a Storm - only a quartz fashion watch but I really liked the style of it so I kept it going until I chipped one of the internal gears adjusting it for daylight savings, after which the hour hand would occasionally stop advancing and go out of alignment with the minute hand.
Having been annoyed by the scrappy build quality of the Storm I decided to get a watch from a recognised name, so went for an Eco-Drive (solar powered quartz) Citizen on titanium bracelet.
Although it's a nice everyday watch (I've got it on today) I found the titanium didn't look quite right matched with a suit, so picked up a cheap Seiko 5 on a stainless steel bracelet from eBay. This solved the "watch that goes with a suit" problem, but now I've become addicted to the "sweep" of automatic movements so I'm continually wondering whether to grab one of the sub-£50 military face Seiko 5s on a NATO that PH's watch forum is so enamoured of to use as an automatic daily beater.
Oh and I don't like the bracelet on the Seiko - it's a bit thin and cheap-looking - so I'm constantly waiting for an unexpected bonus or some other excuse to treat myself to a Christopher Ward. (I like clean, simple watches, ideally with small or nonexistent numerals - not a great fan of giant numbers or complication clutter. Can't stand Graham watches, for example.)
If I do that I think I'll pick up a leather strap for the Seiko as it's not a bad watch for something so cheap, it's just lumbered with a bit of a rubbish bracelet.
Oh, and the lottery win / money no object option?

In smoke (the one on the right). For some reason I've never been keen on the more popular Monaco, but I love the Silverstone, retro kitschiness or no.

I got mine for £57 becasue it was a 75% off sale, the watch retails at £170 and is an automatic etc. So my next watch I'll be looking at £200 - £400 and I don't think Id want a mechanical watch anymore now Ive got an auto.
I did have a look at the monster (as has been mentioned alot on other threads).. but I just can't get on with the design..!!
And thanks for the comments from others, gives me lots to browse / think about

Ah yes, the Seiko Monster
Will be wearing mine today, and I know I'm not the only Monster owner on this thread either
Out of interest, what exactly is good about the monster?! (I guess that's like a non petrolhead asking why the mx5 is so good!) It states its a divers watch though clearly this isnt the reason its so popular.

Having had a look at some of the other manufactures listed in this thread, for an automatic you are looking £500 upwards which is out of my range, so I'm thinking I may have a look at the monster!
The Monster is just daft value for money, it's a solid chunk of steel.
As has been mentioned, the metal strap is a bit ratty. Buy one on a rubber strap, and buy a NATO for nest to nothing from fleabay. Have a Google for Watchadoo bracelets and see what you think, I might invest soon.
The Monster uses fat spring bars (the holders for the strap) so watch out for that.

What?
I can point you in the direction of £7500 steel quartz watches if you don't want a mechanical watch anymore, but want to spend larger sums of money.

The monster is pretty much bombproof - it's a tried and tested movement, in a tried and tested case. For what it is, it's a cheap and cheerful lump of metal. I went a bit nuts and bought a PVD black variant (Night Monster) for £300-or so, but ultimately even the cheap £100 black/orange monsters have the same heart, and operate the same way.Having had a look at some of the other manufactures listed in this thread, for an automatic you are looking £500 upwards which is out of my range, so I'm thinking I may have a look at the monster!
Going against the grain a little, I bought a Tao International panerai-a-like for £60 from eBay, it has a Sea-Gull auto movement (copy of an ETA iirc) and it hasn't been off my wrist for more than a day since. It's the perfect daily driver! The power reserve on the movement lasts way longer than both my Night Monster and my cheapo Seiko 5, which has really impressed me!
Still want a PO before too long though!
