Lost TAG crown

My son's TAG has lost it's crown and is now out of warranty.
Although it was purchased as an 18th birthday present, I am disinclined to pay for the repair - long story - lask of respect for things, etc.
Anyway, as he is a student, he needs to find a cost effective way of getting it fixed.
What would you recommend?
